We invest in our sleep ecosystem, innovative products, world-class customer experience, our communities and diverse best-in-class team to be Canada’s leading sleep partner.We’re looking for a Senior Manager, Accounting to join our growing company and play a key role in overseeing the operation of the Financial Accounting Team, taking ownership over accuracy of monthly, quarterly, and financial results, as well as leading various projects and process improvement initiatives.Job DescriptionIn this role you will be responsible for:Reporting
- Ensure the completeness and accuracy of the Sleep Country Canada (SCC) general ledger and sub-ledgers in accordance with IFRS and Group policies
- Oversee monthly, quarterly and annual financial close processes while actively seeking to improve efficiency and quality
- Review high risk balance sheet accounts and oversee timely completion of account reconciliations ensuring quality reviews are performed
- Support approval of manual journal entries providing feedback and training to team as required
- Monitor accounting and financial policies, practices, and procedures to ensure compliance with IFRS and Group policies
- Ensure complex or new transactions are appropriately accounted, documented and implemented in compliance with IFRS and Group policies
- Accountable for design and effective operational and financial controls, including assessing current accounting and internal control systems, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
- SCC regulatory and tax compliance requirements including all tax filings (income taxes, sales taxes and withholding tax returns)
- Determine, develop and maintain dashboard for departmental and other KPIs
- Assist with preparation of ad-hoc financial analysis as required
Process Improvements, Projects and Operational Support
- Critically evaluate Financial Accounting Services Teams’ operations identifying and implementing improvements that lead to innovation and efficiencies for the department and the business
- Lead cross functional projects to implement processes and controls as well as represent Finance’s interest in Company’s strategic projects ensuring appropriate accounting, controls and reporting are implemented
- Drive optimization of new and existing accounting systems and platforms
- Identify obstacles, take initiatives, make recommendations, and execute necessary actions to ensure successful completion of projects
- Determine and execute socialization, implementation and change management strategies as it relates to process changes
- Support the Controller and the Finance Leadership team as required
Team Management
- Oversee the Accounting Team (Manager and 6 Senior Accountants) and provide performance feedback, coaching and training to ensure effective departmental operation
- Allocate resources to support core deliverables and new tasks or projects
QualificationsThe Qualifications and Experience we like to see:
- University or College degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related discipline; CPA is required
- 6+ years’ progressive experience in a retail or manufacturing environment would be an asset including minimum 3-4 years public accounting experience
- Must have in-depth knowledge of IFRS and controls
- Demonstrated experience in people management, mentoring and leading teams
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, project management, organizational, relationship-building, negotiation, analytical, and presentation skills
- Quick learner and ability to manage multiple priorities in a very fast pace work environment
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with both internal and external stakeholders as well as build and develop strong partnerships
- Inventory and/or income tax experience is a definite asset
- Proficient in MS Excel (Intermediate-Advanced) and PowerPoint
