Through unprecedented collaboration, we catalyze business action and drive ambitious policy to halve emissions by 2030 and accelerate an inclusive transition to a net-zero economy by 2050, at the latest.Strategic communications is core to driving the success of the Coalition. The We Mean Business Coalition’s communications team deploys leading-edge communications strategy and tactics to deliver on the Coalition’s overarching goals.
We are seeking an experienced Communications professional to join our high-performing, remote team. The successful candidate will:

, the Coalition’s initiative focused on small business climate action. * Play a key role in the Coalition’s communications team, supporting the delivery of ambitious corporate advocacy and action campaigns.We Mean Business Coalition is a founding partner and host organization of the SME Climate Hub, leading on the communications efforts that support the reach and engagement of small businesses with the Hub. The successful applicant will spend up to 90% of their time working to develop, lead and deliver the SME Climate Hub communications strategy.About the SME Climate HubThe SME Climate Hub provides a one-stop-shop where small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can make a climate commitment and access best-in-class tools and resources to measure their emissions, develop a climate strategy and reduce their footprint at a pace required by science. It is the official pathway for SMEs to join the United Nations Race to Zero campaign.The Hub partners with non-profits, multinational companies, financial institutions and governments to create clear incentives and opportunities for SMEs that commit to achieving net zero before 2050.   • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in marketing, journalism, communications or public relations) or relevant experience.
  • 7+ years of experience working in the field of communications, media, PR, agencies or related fields.
  • You have led or helped a team translate a vision and goals into a successful communications and media strategy.
  • You are comfortable managing varied, high-level stakeholders and have managed communications around high-level international events.
  • You have experience in project and people management as well as working within a diverse and geographically dispersed team, including internal colleagues and contractors.
  • Fluent English required, other language skills are a plus.
  • Experience working with corporate and/or small business audiences is a plus.
  • Experience working in field of climate or sustainability is a plus.

  • Lead external communications for the SME Climate Hub to raise awareness for the initiative and its tools, including developing the communications strategy, key messages and content for digital campaigns
  • Work with the SME Climate Hub internal team and partners to define and implement communications strategies
  • Collaborate with the SME Climate Hub internal team and the WMBC Policy team to develop and implement a new Policy & Thought leadership workstream for the SME Climate Hub, to advocate for policies, standards and regulations facilitating SME Climate Action
  • Write and distribute press releases, blog posts and other content for the SME Climate Hub website and partner campaigns
  • Collaborate with the Coalition’s media team to secure media coverage for the SME Climate Hub and build relationships with target media
  • Work with SME Climate Hub website development team to maintain and optimize copy for the Hub website, evaluate impact of communications campaigns, and improve SME email communications
  • Line management responsibility for one person in the SME Climate Hub team
  • Manage social media agency to drive awareness of SME Climate Hub; grow community engagement through social media channels across organic and paid workstreams
  • Oversee opportunities for the SME Climate Hub to be featured at key climate and business events, and support engagement at those events
  • Ensure placement of committed SMEs in communications opportunities to elevate them as climate leaders, incl. in media interviews, social media features, case studies and event spokespersons
  • Work with external designers and content producers to create communications assets and campaigns
  • Oversee consultants, partners and agencies, in target regions and ensure integration with global messaging, website and social media channels
  • Activate ecosystem-wide partners, including corporations, financial institutions, NGOs, and business associations to increase awareness of the SME Climate Hub through communications campaigns and advise on public alignment of partner campaigns and resources
  • Lead annual SME CH survey strategy, development and narrative to raise awareness for the barriers and motivators around SME climate action
  • Provide regular communications reporting and updates for The SME Climate Hub management team
  • Collaborate with broader WMBC secretariat to ensure strong synergies between the SME Climate Hub and broader WMBC communications projects and messaging, including corporate reduction of Scope 3 emissions and fossil fuel phase out
  • Direct communications budget for the SME Climate Hub communications program
  • Track against agreed metrics and evolve strategy based on a clear understanding of what works
  • Support the corporate recruitment efforts for The Climate Pledge through strategic communications, including but not limited to contributing to media relations, content development, thought leadership, social media strategy and events
  • Support the Director, Communications & Development and wider We Mean Business Coalition communications team, in delivery of ambitious corporate advocacy and action campaigns, as required
