What is the opportunity?

The RBC SOX Office is responsible for governance and oversight of the RBC Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance program. It is also the Centre of Governance for Finance Risk across RBC.

As a Senior Manager, with the SOX Office, you will be a key member of an industry leading, dynamic team of SOX experts who provide guidance to all levels of RBC, up to and including the Board of Directors. You will share your knowledge of Financial Reporting and SOX risks, controls and related processes with Head Office Finance, all Lines of Business and Technology and Operations. You will lead and participate in projects, developing enterprise-wide control standards which will shape the way RBC manages SOX and Financial Reporting risk going forward. You will have the opportunity to build relationships externally through active participation in and leadership of meetings with Canadian Financial Institution Peers and RBC Senior Leaders and, critically, with both the Internal and External Audit teams. As a Senior Manager you will improve the Company’s financial control environment and bring a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes to areas which impact the financial statements.

What will you do?

  • Design and implement new automated processes and procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the SOX risk and control framework.
  • Manage change by leading and participating in projects and initiatives which impact all lines of business
  • Provide training, advisory and guidance to a portfolio of control owners throughout the enterprise
  • Develop working relationships with team members, business partners, stakeholders, external and internal audit etc.
  • Monitor and prepare reporting for Senior Leadership up to the Board of Directors
  • Identify and drive improvements through benchmarking, research and consideration of evolving industry standards.
  • Development and implementation of RBC SOX methodology
  • Oversight of the SOX testing program (executed by Internal Audit)
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, publications and updates that could impact processes and apply changes where needed.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • CA/CPA designation
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Excellent leadership, communication, storytelling, analytical and project management skills
  • Ability to concisely summarize findings, conclusions and recommendations in written form
  • Strong experience in Audit (IT, Business, Operations etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and manage numerous priorities simultaneously
  • Proficiency with computer applications, such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Access Database

Nice-to-have

  • Banking Industry experience
  • Experience managing risks and controls in an IT environment
  • Experiencing running a Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Compliance program
  • Knowledge of RBC financial systems and associated procedures
