We care about each other, reaching our potential, making a difference to our communities, and achieving success that is mutual.The Enterprise Finance & Controllership function serves a critical role in telling the story of RBC’s financial results to the public through the quarterly and annual Report to Shareholders, providing advice on complex accounting issues through a strategic lens, maintaining strong financial reporting internal controls and data governance practices, and enabling strategic planning, forecasting, and management of financial performance to meet the Bank’s overall financial objectives.This role will have a focus on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Reporting and will drive collaboration with stakeholders from across the organization to support the development and production of best-in-class ESG-related disclosures with a strong controls and governance lens, support impact-driven ESG-related advocacy efforts, and help advance priority ESG initiatives across the bank, including preparing for future ESG disclosure regulations and standards.The role offers the opportunity to be at the forefront of building critical ESG reporting infrastructure from the ground up, and to collaborate with and build relationships with senior members from across Finance, Corporate Citizenship, Law, Risk Management, Communications, Investor Relations, Human Resources, and Strategy.   • Play a key role in advancing RBC’s ESG reporting infrastructure, including driving ESG disclosure process improvements and implementing new reporting tools and technology to support the delivery of RBC’s core ESG reports (ESG Progress Report, Climate Report, and Public Accountability Statement) under a finance-led model
  • Shape RBC’s external ESG disclosure strategy and deliver best–in-class disclosures through effective partnering with key stakeholders, benchmarking, and identification of emerging disclosure trends
  • Manage the preparation and delivery of RBC’s core ESG reports, including assisting in relevant coordination and planning activities and providing effective challenge of sections to support the accuracy and quality of ESG disclosures
  • Liaise with the external auditors on ESG reporting issues, as needed
  • Help to shape future ESG-related disclosure requirements by supporting advocacy efforts on developments impacting RBC’s ESG-related disclosures, through industry associations where applicable (i.e. Canadian Bankers Association)
  • Liaise with industry peers on ESG disclosure matters as needed through industry associations
  • Monitor and keep up-to-date on relevant developments from key bodies, including the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), OSFI, and the European Union (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive)
  • Help advance priority ESG initiatives across the bank, including preparing for future ESG disclosure regulations and standards (e.g. ISSB, OSFI B-15)
  • Assess and evaluate the impact of new ESG-related disclosure and financial reporting requirements
  • Support the preparation and delivery of RBC’s quarterly and annual Management’s Discussion & Analysis, including but not limited to providing effective challenge on disclosures prepared by key stakeholders, and drafting disclosures, where applicable
  • Support and contribute to strategic initiatives within the Chief Accountant’s Group and more broadly within the CFO Group
  • Assist in the preparation of ESG-related materials for senior executives, our CFO, and the Board/Audit Committee
  • Partner with key stakeholders in the preparation and review of ESG-related disclosures included in RBC’s regulatory documents
  • Work with key stakeholders across RBC to support enhanced governance over ESG-related reporting
  • Develop strong business partner relationships to foster greater understanding of key disclosures and emerging trends
  • Contribute to a collaborative, team-first environment and bring your unique perspective and curiosity to set ambitious goals, drive process improvements, and challenge the status quo

What do you need to succeed?Must-have

  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively to executives and draft clear, succinct and appropriate correspondence and documents
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities in a cross-functional setting
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills; including ability to recommend practical solutions to complex challenges in a dynamic environment
  • Proactive and forward-thinking approach
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, while knowing when to escalate and ask for support
  • Curiosity to learn new ways to do things, willingness to challenge the status quo, and ability to drive process improvements and efficiencies
  • Strong interpersonal skills; specifically able to act as change agent, facilitator and collaborator
  • Self-starter – enthusiasm and willingness to learn to get up to speed and stay abreast of constantly evolving developments
  • A “one team” mindset and willingness to support and contribute to broader Finance goals and objectives

Nice-to-have

  • Strong understanding of ESG regulatory disclosure requirements and risk landscape
  • Solid understanding of financial institutions, including all facets of RBC’s business and other activities with strong business acumen
  • ESG-related experience and/or familiarity with ESG-related frameworks such as TCFD, ISSB, SASB, GRI, CSRD, etc. is highly desirable
  • Accounting policy and/or external financial reporting experience is highly desirable
