The opportunity

The primary focus of the Senior Manager, External Reporting role is to assist in the implementation of new accounting standards and support the preparation of external financial statements for CWB Group and its partner companies, in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). In addition, this position will also assist in certain aspects related to the preparation and presentation of regulatory reports.

Liaise with external advisors to ensure that recommendations are aligned with industry standards.

Work closely with the Finance senior leadership team to:

prepare financial reports and analysis for the Board of Directors, the CWB Group management team and other areas of the Finance department.

develop and document applicable accounting policies and procedures over the hedge effectiveness model and other complex accounting matters as required.

Ensure complex corporate transactions are incorporated into CWB Group’s external financial reporting.

Provide support on the disclosure of regulatory items, particularly in areas where they overlap with IFRS financial reporting (ex. Capital management, Pillar 3, etc.).

Provide timely and high-quality accounting advice on new, complex, or high-risk projects/ transactions to assist business partners in achieving business and financial reporting objectives.

Assist in the implementation of new accounting standards by driving consensus among various stakeholder groups to successfully complete adoption.

Present complex accounting topics to senior management, recognizing and anticipating potential opportunities and managing changes as the business, regulatory environment, or accounting standards change.

Seek out industry trends and organizational knowledge to understand alternative approaches and/or solutions.

Ensure disclosures related to new/revised accounting standards are integrated into financial statements.

Regularly leads or supports Finance sponsored projects and participates in non-Finance projects; assist with any projects as needed that require accounting or financial input and/or analysis.

Assist with the planning of projects, including scope, requirement changes and competing priorities as well as determining and conveying impact on budget, time and risk using appropriate fact-based metrics/assumptions.

Coordinates with the rest of the Accounting team to ensure a timely and accurate close for CWB and its partner companies.

Core knowledge requirements

Bachelor of Commerce and/or Business Administration degree

CPA designation

Demonstrated experience

Seven (7) or more years of full cycle accounting and management reporting experience combined with five (5) or more years of team leadership experience.

Experience working in a public company, or within the Financial Industry considered an asset.

Strong understanding of the financial and accounting standards applicable to financial institutions, including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
