Job Description:Position Summary:Position Summary: Under the general direction of Executive Director, Finance – Corporate, this position is primarily responsible for overseeing the Company’s quarterly and annual financial reporting packages for the GCGC consolidated group and its subsidiaries, and the Company’s corporate accounting functions. The Senior Manager, Finance works closely with regional finance leads to ensure consistent accounting policies are followed and compliance with internal and external reporting requirements. The Senior Manager, Finance ensures adherence to the Company’s policies and procedures, motivates and leads by example and supports Great Canadian’s learning environment while establishing a safe and welcoming work environment for all team members.Key Accountabilities:
- Oversees and reviews financial reporting deliverables, including the preparation of the quarterly and annual Financial Statements, Management Discussion & Analysis, and Audit Committee presentation, for the Company and its subsidiaries to ensure deadlines are met in accordance with regulatory and other financial reporting requirement.
- Manages various accounting issues to ensure the Company’s compliance under International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”) and reporting requirements under the Company’s debt and operating agreements, including the assessment of new IFRS standards and review or prepare technical accounting memos. Directs and manages significant accounting projects impacting financial reporting as they arise; for example, adoption of new major IFRS standard.
- Provides oversight over the Company’s corporate accounting function, including Fixed Assets and Ancillary accounting, to ensure timely completion of month-end and quarter-end processes. Reviews certain monthly journal entries and working papers performed at Corporate. Coordinates with regional finance leads to resolve any financial accounting issues that arise and identify and implement improvements to current processes. Acts as backup to the corporate treasury function.
- Acts as the primary contact for external auditors; coordinates audit timing, working paper requirements and communicates accounting issues.
- Responds to and resolves inquiries and issues related to financial reporting; provides financial accounting analysis/support for operational transactions and regional accounting teams.
Education and Qualifications:
- CPA designation
- Minimum 8 years of post-qualification experience. Having both public practice and industry management experience an asset.
- Proficiency in IFRS, strong technical accounting skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs, with advanced knowledge of Excel and ability to summarize and interpret large volumes of data.
- Knowledge of JD Edwards or other ERP accounting software an asset.
