Job SummaryJob DescriptionWhat is the opportunityAs a key member of the Insurance Finance Team, you will be responsible to develop Insurance and Financial technical documentation for Insurance Contract measurements, Accounting Systems, and related methodologies with strong focus on Insurance Contract/Policy Accounting Data, Financial Data and Data Management and the implementation of new Financial & Data Technology tools with strong focus on Accounting HUB. Analyze processes and controls across financial applications while identifying and driving solution opportunities for improvements relating to the Insurance contract measurement, financial and accounting systems and data lakes. Provide business analytics, financial modeling, testing and other requirements of the project as assigned to ensure strategic financial objectives are accomplished, contributing to initiatives ranging from large strategic projects to ongoing maintenance and change management activities.What will you do?

  • As a member of a dynamic, multi-functional Insurance Transformation and implementation team embedded within Finance, develops technical financial data requirements and specifications for Insurance Contract measurement, accounting, systems, processes, methodologies, and models. Strong focus on Insurance Policy/Contract related systems, Accounting HUB and Financial Data-Lake.
  • Prepares documentation and/or presentations relating to methodology; processes; implementation; testing; controls / governance; end user documentation / training, and analyses performed.
  • Contributes to development, execution, and/or documentation of testing processes, test cases & expected results related to project deliverables.
  • Contributes to successful completion of project objectives under tight timelines, including via identification of risks, agility, resolution of ambiguity, and development of mitigation strategies.
  • Parallel focus on implementing early win program improvement opportunities identified including development of modeling & allocation technologies, data requirements and gap analysis.
  • Leverages own technical Insurance accounting, coding and Insurance system knowledge to analyze and define requirements in an intersect of actuarial, investments, accounting, IT, process structure, regulatory, and data needs.
  • Accountable for key requirements, testing and SOX controls surrounding the Insurance Accounting HUB. Will execute and implement enhancements of Posting Drivers, Allocations, Accounts Payable and Investment Feeds while implementing and maintaining key control and SOX required processes. Able to simplify the most complex financial architectures and provide finance transformations.
  • Collaborate closely with the Insurance Transformational Team including GRM, Insurance Financial Advisors, tax, pricing & investment counterparts covering financial data input’s & outputs from/to the financial and operating models (i.e., AXIS, policy administration, investments systems, CSM systems etc.).
  • Ongoing maintenance & review of financial tools & reports including recommending to senior management opportunities to stream-line and introduce new financial analytics/technologies that will strengthen the ongoing strategic financial transformation.
  • Implementation of stringent EUC, SOX, security and other model framework controls.
  • Understands various documentation stakeholder requirements, and proposes, defines, and implements the overall system documentation structure design.
  • Conducts financial testing on data, systems and processes to ensure compliance with documentation. Works in concert with the Transformational Team in the design & implementation of a Future End-to-End Data, System and Financial Solution.

What you need to succeed?Must Have

  • 5+ years’ of experience in the Insurance Financial Industry with strong insurance product, operations and/or policy accounting knowledge (Life, Health, P&C and/or Wealth).
  • A solid understanding of Insurance policy system Accounting & Data requirements and processes, including methods, development lifecycle, quality controls, project management, IT development methodologies, and IT standards.
  • Ideal candidate has hands-on experience working with an Accounting Hub, which has a proven track record to simplify the most complex financial architectures and provide finance transformations. Ability to think outside the box while implementing enhanced Posting Drivers, Allocations, accounts payable & investment feed and key reporting & SOX controls.
  • Strong Verbal Communication skills and ability to communicate complex concepts concisely to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Sound software and other technology related skillsets. Ideal candidate would have some level of programming experience such as python, SQL or similar to enable review & perform analysis of large data sets and exposure to some of Data-Lakes, Accounting HUB’s, data analytic tools (tableau, dataiku) and/or Insurance Administration Systems.
  • Bachelor of Business or Commerce Degree.
  • In progress or completed CPA and/or MBA or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent ability to structure and write clear technical system, process, and methodology documents of varying lengths.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, Canadian GAAP and Actuarial Standards of Practice.
  • Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to grasp technical details and determine macro-level issues.
  • Self-initiated & self-starter with a strong work ethic.
  • Teamwork, collaboration, and co-operation is a requirement.
