Requisition ID: 217810Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.The Senior Manager, Investment Management Solutions is responsible for streamlining investment information into customized data views by performing end-to-end system analysis, design, programming, support, documentation, and implementation of in-house and third-party investment solutions used by our investment teams. The incumbent will play a key role in driving modernization initiatives, incorporating advanced tools and platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Looker/BI tools, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Generative AI (Gen AI), and Python to future-proof the organization’s data infrastructure and analytics capabilities.Working as a partner with Scotiabank technology teams, as well as the fixed income and broader 1832 Asset Management team, the incumbent will adhere to established technology and investment management standards, policies, and procedures while collaborating with internal partners to ensure the successful execution of mandates.Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Oversee front-office investment data and reporting solutions
  • Maintain, support, and enhance existing applications
  • Administer daily investment database processes to ensure accurate, complete, and timely reporting is available to portfolio managers, investment teams, and stakeholders
  • Manage data loading and validation processes, including security prices, positions, and analytics, ensuring robust data integrity
  • Collaborate closely with portfolio managers and asset management teams to determine new reporting requirements and enhance existing reporting tools
  • Facilitate discussions on user requirements, design, and functionality during project lifecycles
  • Develop custom BI dashboards and reports
  • Enable self-service analytics for stakeholders through user-friendly BI interfaces
  • Enhance existing ETL processes using MS SQL Server and Python to ingest, transform, cleanse, and load investment data efficiently
  • Identify bottlenecks or potential risks within ETL pipelines, notify end-users, and implement solutions for optimization
  • Lead migration initiatives for database sources and processes to cloud-based infrastructures such as GCP
  • Integrate cloud native ETL tools (e.g., Google Dataflow, BigQuery) into the data pipeline architecture
  • Explore opportunities to implement AI and Generative AI (Gen AI) solutions for data analysis, pattern recognition, and predictive analytics
  • Build AI-powered tools to support portfolio management strategies, trend forecasting, and anomaly detection
  • Leverage Python libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, TensorFlow, PyTorch) for advanced data processing and machine learning models
  • Perform logical and physical data modeling to build optimized, scalable, and secure data infrastructures.
  • Ensure data quality, security, and compliance requirements are met across systems and workflows
  • Develop and maintain database stored procedures, functions, and triggers in MS SQL Server and optimize query performance
  • Collaborate on cloud adoption strategies and ensure seamless integration with GCP services
  • Implement scalable data architectures for both structured and unstructured data.
  • Continuously explore emerging technologies to improve data efficiency, visualization, and decision-making capabilities

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • University degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field
  • Three plus years supporting Portfolios Managers in their investment process
  • CFA or progress towards CFA designation is an asset
  • Experience in a data analysis role, preferably within the financial services industry, supporting portfolio management, portfolio operations or investment research
  • Solid understanding of financial markets, investment concepts, and portfolio management principles
  • Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance best practices
  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques and their application to finance
  • Strong proficiency in MS SQL Server, Excel VBA, PowerShell, and Python
  • Experience with market data providers (e.g., Bloomberg, FactSet, Refinitiv) and financial databases
  • Experience with ETL tools and processes, cloud-based data platforms (GCP, BigQuery), and BI visualization tools (Looker, Power BI)
  • Exposure to AI and Generative AI (Gen AI) technologies, with a focus on applying them to financial data solutions
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex data insights clearly and concisely
  • An ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and integrity
  • The ability to collaborate across technical and investment teams to deliver data-driven solutions
  • An ability to deliver data and reporting in a high-pressured environment
