Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Senior MLT plays a critical role in maintaining and optimizing the Laboratory Information System (LIS). This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the smooth operation of the hospital while supporting accurate and efficient laboratory workflows. In this role, you will be responsible for the management and integration of the LIS across our facility, ensuring that all departments are adequately supported with accurate and timely laboratory information.If you are passionate about contributing to patient health and working collaboratively with a talented team, we would love to hear from you!KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain professional competency through participation in quality monitoring, education, and improvement training programs, and assist in developing departmental policies and training new staff.
- Perform all duties and responsibilities with an understanding of and respect for patient rights.
- Collaborate with Medical Laboratory Technologists and health professionals, promptly informing the laboratory manager or Charge Technologist/Quality Leader of any issues affecting quality control or patient care.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between quantity, quality, costs and impacts of tests on patients, the laboratory and the health care system.
- Ensure that appropriate and properly identified specimens are collected and that their identity and integrity are maintained throughout the testing process through established education and protocols. Reports accurate results in a timely manner.
- Initiate appropriate action according to established protocols when critical values are obtained.
- Ensure confidentiality of all patient information.
- Perform all required laboratory tests according to established procedures.
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and/or daily cleaning of laboratory equipment, work areas and non-disposable apparatus.
- Prepare required reagents, solutions and stains following established formulas and techniques.
- Carry out evaluations and calibrations of procedures when required.
- Engage in departmental studies to evaluate structure and workflow. Attend staff meetings, hospital in-services and participate in Internal and External Audits as scheduled.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Ensure seamless data exchange and integration between the LIS and other systems, coordinating with IT and other departments.
- Perform regular system updates, backups, and maintenance while coordinating with the Laboratory and IT teams to address connectivity issues, manage barcode printers, and oversee system downtimes, upgrades, and recovery.
- Develop, update, and maintain user manuals and training materials, providing in-service training and assisting users in optimizing LIS workflows to improve efficiency.
- Generate and analyze reports to support laboratory operations and decision-making and provide statistical and clinical information to the Laboratory Manager. Advise on new LIS equipment, LIS upgrades, and strategies.
- Lead or participate in LIS-related projects, including system upgrades and new implementations, coordinating with vendors, stakeholders, and regional partners to ensure project success.
- Provide application support and implementation assistance to regional partners for Meditech Laboratory modules and coordinate regional initiatives with respect to Meditech and other healthcare system interfaces.
- Collect and report performance metrics (KPIs) to measure success, while establishing channels for staff feedback on the LIS and training, ensuring continuous improvement in user experience.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCEThe ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies:
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology.
- Member in good standing of the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
- Minimum five (5) years of recent laboratory experience in computerized health care information systems (preferably Meditech).
- Experience supporting end users from an applications and device standpoint.
- Experience working collaboratively with various departments, such as IT, nursing, and clinical teams, as well as regional partnerships with external stakeholders.
- Recent experience in Chemistry, Transfusion Services, Hematology and Phlebotomy is preferred.
- Background in teaching and training at the adult level.
- Experience working with third-party interfaces such as Myrth, OLIS.
- Related experience in a hospital environment is preferred.
ASSETS
- Bilingual in English and French.
- Knowledge of Meditech Expanse is an asset.
- Coursework or Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, related program or equivalent is an asset.
- Project management experience and problem-solving skills, particularly in planning, execution, and monitoring of projects related to LIS.

- Hourly rate of pay $42.24 – $53.28, vacation accrual starting at three (3) weeks per year.

HOURS OF WORKPermanent Full Time. Typically, this position requires a standard work week; however, it may include shift work as needed to meet operational demands. Shifts include days, nights, weekends and statutory holidays.
