The Role

Tribe has an immediate opening for a Senior Property Accountant to join our accounting team at our Toronto location. The candidate will be responsible for a portfolio of properties and will report to the Accounting Manager.

Responsibilities

1. Providing financial reporting that is accurate, timely and to the satisfaction of the
customer by:

  • ensuring that the financial information in your portfolio is accurate and complete;
  • following internal procedures and practices to be compliant with the Strata Property Act and other governance bodies as applicable.
  • preparing financial statements and monthly financial reporting packages;
  • preparing accrual/adjusting entries and assisting in annual year-end procedures;
  • responding to financial and accounting enquiries from Community and Property Managers and councils;
  • assisting the Community Manager with budget preparations and year end balancing as required;
  • assisting with Accounts Receivable/ Accounts Payable for your assigned portfolio;
  • fulfilling audit information requests (individual and Trust);
  • providing financial analysis and ad hoc reporting as requested;

2. Assisting in Accounting Software related tasks within the controlled menu set:

  • Un-posting journal entries and bank recs after determining that they will not affect financial reporting already distributed
  • Setting up new users and deactivating users as employees onboard or offboard
  • Maintaining the rental increase spreadsheet and unposting rental increases as needed
  • Signing cheques and approving daily transfers for TTO’s, EFT’s, and all others
  • Ensuring initial funds and final funds for onboarding/offboarding properties are sent out in a timely manner for the verified amounts
  • Assisting the Accounting Manager with any other adhoc requests as needed

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance or related field is preferred
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a Property Accountant
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • strong understanding and application of GAAP and full-cycle financial statement preparation;
  • advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office particularly with Excel;
  • exceptional organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines;
  • excellent people skills and conflict resolution skills.
