What is the opportunity?
The National Tax Services Team specializes in assisting Royal Trust Relationship Managers by providing efficient, accurate, and quality client service. Key client service elements include T1 and T3 tax return preparation and support related to estate and trust accounts administration.
The Senior Tax Officer is accountable for consistently delivering high-quality tax returns, demonstrates attention to detail, and ensures that key filing deadlines and internal milestones are met. Teamwork, collaboration, and developing interpersonal relationships are important skills for success.
What will you do?
- Operates within an established client service and account administration framework.
- Ensures that account administration procedures and business unit policies do not create an impediment to the delivery of the overall client experience.
- Ensures client’s expectations are being met by respecting key deliverables
- Ensures that profitability objectives are achieved relative to established objectives.
- Promotes and demonstrates the overall corporate objectives, vision, and values of RBC
- Demonstrates ability to balance the needs of the client, employee, and shareholder.
- Develops and maintains strong working relationships with RBC partners as well as with representatives of other financial institutions to facilitate the gathering of data, to prepare accurate tax returns;
- Proactively maintains timely written, verbal, and electronic communication with other support groups internally and with external contacts
- Identifies, investigates, and resolves all inquiries, administrative errors, etc. as required, and refers more complex tax issues to the Senior Manager.
- Assists in the collection, facilitation, and coordination of information and documentation to ensure account administration within their area of responsibility is carried out in accordance with the terms of governing documents, relevant legislation, client needs, company policy, and department objectives
- Reviews Estate Summaries of Estate assets and liabilities based on the information supplied by the Relationship Manager and related institutions.
- Prepares and reviews estate and trust income tax return, ensures CRA filing is done on a timely basis.
- Reviews tax/CRA correspondence, responds to CRA inquiries, and works on resolving any taxation issues with CRA.
What do you need to succeed?
Must Have
- Required: University Degree or equivalent,
- 3-5 years’ Estate & Trust Tax experience.
Nice to Have
- Accounting designation or equivalent, Estate & Trust Administration courses, Canadian Securities Course

The expected salary range for this particular position is $62,000 – $110,000 depending on your experience, skills, and registration status, market conditions and business needs.
