Job Summary Reports to Senior Development Manager, the Senior Technical System Analyst is to oversee the development, optimization, and maintenance of core mainframe applications supporting RBC IS Domestic Custody operations.This role requires effective management of both internal and vendor resources, and project delivery within different methodologies, including traditional Waterfall iterative, and Agile (POD-based) methodologies.As the senior technical authority, the incumbent ensures seamless integration across these frameworks, facilitate strong business and vendor collaboration, and align system improvements with RBC IS strategic objectivesJob DescriptionWhat Will You Do?

  • Guide a cross-functional mainframe team with both internal and vendor resources in development, maintenance, and troubleshooting, ensuring system performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Oversee mainframe system solution architecture, focusing on secure, scalable, and resilient solutions aligned with banking requirements.
  • Lead teams across various project delivery models, including Waterfall, iterative, and Agile (pod-based). Ensure adaptability by tailoring team structures and processes to fit project needs, enhancing collaboration and flexibility.
  • Manage vendor resource and vendor relationships in regards to the quality of service and project deliverables. Act as the main liaison for coordinating efforts between internal and external teams to meet SLAs and project milestones.
  • Serve as a bridge between IT, business units, and vendors, clearly communicating technical details and aligning solutions with operational goals.
  • Maintain compliance with security and regulatory standards, ensuring source code vulnerabilities review with vendor resources and adhering to RBC standards. Manage the identification of root cause and coordinate recovery and mitigation to improve resource usage and time to market.
  • Proactively identify areas for system improvement and collaborate with both internal and vendor resources to recommend best solutions, work-around, short-term and long-term solutions, considering the cost based on understanding of business issues/need, and implement innovative tools, processes, and technologies.

What you need to succeed? (Must have’s)

  • 5+ years in mainframe technologies (e.g. COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2, Endevor) within the banking or financial sector, specifically systems in Custody area.
  • Good understanding of Custody business process, logic and workflow, key stakeholder and third party relationship.
  • Expertise in mainframe architecture, programming, and tools; understanding of security protocols and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting teams across Waterfall, iterative, and Agile (POD-based) environments. Flexibility and knowledge to guide projects within each framework.
  • Proven experience managing vendor resources and ensuring project deliverables meet quality and SLA standards.
  • Strong track record of leading both internal teams and vendor resources with effective project management and resource allocation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate communication and collaboration across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for complex systems; ability to innovate and adapt across different delivery models.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with DevOps and Agile methodologies in a mainframe environment.
  • Certifications in mainframe technology/Agile/Project.
  • Familiarity with hybrid project environments that blend Waterfall, iterative, and Agile practices.
