Plus, we invest 10% of our budgeted profits back into our community – almost $90 million since 2000 alone – because when our members do well, we believe our communities should do well too.Small Business ManagerJul 11, 2024Location(s): Beverly Corners Branch, Aulds Road Branch, Courtenay BranchJob Type: Full TimemyWork Options: In-person, HybridWhat’s the job?The Small Business Manager will independently manage a portfolio of between 200-400 business members in the Mid-Island/Duncan/North Island region that have deposit and lending requirements under the guidance and coaching of a Senior Manager, Small Business Banking. Business customers (often referred to as Small Business Customers) typically have large deposit and cash management requirements and are also prime targets to cross sell other Coast Capital Savings (CCS) products and services. Where there are borrowing requirements, credit limits will typically not exceed $250,000 but could be higher based on security offered. Estimated time to be spent on various responsibilities is expected to be as follows: 90% Portfolio and Risk Management and 10% Business Development.What you’ll get to do:

  • Plan, organize and complete assigned tasks such that all tasks are completed in a timely manner and to quality standards, while at all times maintaining a high level of customer service.
  • Provide effective risk monitoring and control of a portfolio of business clients through timely completion of annual and other credit reviews, ongoing monitoring of the customers banking activities. Performance will be assessed against targets set on the basis of overdue reviews as a percentage of the portfolio under management
  • Adherence to compliance and security policies and procedures, audit review
  • Ensure effective management of commercial loans and mortgage exposures by ensuring i) accurate booking of limits on banking systems, ii) appropriate security and required documentation is in place in order to protect CCS’ security position and to protect CCS from unnecessary loss
  • Expand quality and profitable business with existing members and new customers referred by team members. Performance will be assessed against annual targets on i) profitability of the portfolio ii) deposits and iii) referrals
  • Build and deepen existing customer relationships by; Effectively onboarding a customer to CCS by taking an active role in the account opening process; Demonstrating understanding of the entrepreneur/business by using available tools e.g. WYABC
  • Build and deepen existing customer relationships by expanding the business relationship through cross sales of business products e.g. business credit cards and merchant services, cash management services, payroll services, foreign exchange
  • Build and deepen existing customer relationships by successful referrals to other business units in areas of retail banking, wealth management, equipment finance, commercial insurance
  • Process customer’s requests accurately and within specified timeframes, in accordance with Credit Union Policies & Procedures and applicable legislative/regulatory requirements, to effectively and efficiently support and sustain exemplary customer sales, service and non-credit fulfillment.
  • Provide proactive, friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and professional customer service, identifying opportunities and initiating qualified referrals to others including Retail and Commercial business lines in order to add value to the customer relationship. Take ownership of customer satisfaction by thoroughly identifying their needs, gathering information and handling any problems/issues tactfully and effectively.
  • Prepare everyday banking (including account opening documentation), lending (non-security) and investment product documentation in a courteous and knowledgeable manner in accordance with established standards and legislative/regulatory requirements.
  • Provide service support for basic Cash Management products, seeking assistance from specialists in cash management as needed.
  • Prepares credit applications including collection and assimilation of information as necessary to make credit decisions. Conduct financial analysis as necessary.
  • Identify, record and advise of any potential risk issues and recommend workflow and administrative process alternatives to improve efficiencies and customer service and assist in resolving audit and customer issues, ensuring irregularities are corrected, and provide timely, effective problem resolution, escalating issues as needed.
  • Responsible for any required credit monitoring and compliance requirements. Complete any pre-funding due diligence and security documentation completion and follow-up.
  • Protect the Credit Union’s assets by understanding the risks and take appropriate actions relating to business banking. Identify risk related to personal banking, including deposit, investment and lending products and regulations, Bank Policies & Procedures, legal and ethical requirements, process requirements and established guidelines, to maintain operational integrity.
  • Understand and comply with all regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Prevent loss due to fraud, counterfeiting, money laundering, or defalcation; identify and support suspicious and other reportable transactions or patterns of activity that are suspected to be related to money laundering.
  • This role will be responsible for developing and expanding relationships with existing business members through effective cross sale and referrals to other business lines such as Retail, Equipment Finance, and Commercial Insurance.
  • Actively collaborate with other business partners and branch contacts, to assist in executing sales and referral opportunities, and in acquiring and retaining profitable commercial relationships.

Who are we looking for?

  • Minimum 4 – 6 Years of Job-Related Experience
  • Experience in financial services including exposure to lending, commercial banking, portfolio management and business development.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Commerce, MBA or other relevant designation (i.e. accounting designation) would be an asset. Accreditation in internal and external courses will be required for future mobility.
  • Fundamental knowledge of commercial products (credit and deposits)
  • Basic knowledge of financial statements, accounting principles and analytical skills
  • Basic knowledge of commercial credit (analysis, policies, security analysis and monitoring)
  • Basic knowledge of retail credit analysis, policies, security and legal procedures
  • Basic knowledge of deposit and cash management products, security documentation, various legal entity structures and contract law
