Unit SummaryThe Integrated Stroke Model of care provides assessment and treatment to stroke patients along the continuum. The stroke system begins in acute care on the 24 bed unit on 7South at the General Site. Stroke recovery continues on B2North, a 28 bed unit in the Regional Rehabilitation Centre co-located at the HGH site. The team also works closely with the Restorative Care Program at St. Peter’s Hospital where longer stay stroke rehabilitation occurs for some patients. Staff will have experience with skills in the treatment of stoke patients in both the acute and rehabilitation phases of the care continuum. This unique model provides improved access to best practice and rehabilitation care for all individuals who have suffered a stroke.Position SummaryAs a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, the Speech-Language Pathologist provides evaluation, intervention, consultation, education and prevention to an adult population presenting communication and swallowing disabilities as a result of impairments in language, cognitive-communication abilities, articulation , voice , fluency and/or oropharyngeal dysfunction secondary to stroke. Supervision and teaching of Communicative Disorders Assistants is an integral part of the position. Service delivery consists of a combination of consultative and direct treatment. The Speech-Language Pathologist will provide service on either 7South or B2North. This position will also provide care to the occasional amputee and spinal cord patient on B2South.Schedule Work HoursMonday to Friday; daysQualifications * Registered with CASLPO or eligible for registration2. Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology
3. Current knowledge base and experience in the assessment and treatment of adults with neurogenic communication and swallowing disorders
4. Previous experience working with a stroke population within a rehabilitation setting preferred
5. Experience with video-fluoroscopy swallowing studies an asset/preferred
6. Skills and experience in the areas of augmentative and alternative communication preferred, or a willingness to actively develop these skillsAs a condition of employment, you are required to submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination to Employee Health Services.
