About the Department:

The units directly under the Senior International Officer (SIO) is the Global Education Office (GEO) and International Enrollment Partnerships (IEP). In addition, there is close collaboration with other international-focused units at the university such as INTO Mason, Mason Korea, and the Office of International Programs and Services (OIPS). These units collectively support the internationalization efforts of the university and in support of GMU’s strategic plan, serving both students studying abroad, as well as international students coming to Mason.

About the Position:

The Sponsored Students Programs Coordinator improves support for, and increases enrollment of, sponsored students at the University; improves communication and strategic partnership collaboration with respective sponsoring agencies in pursuit of retention and development of enrollment pipelines; serves as a centralized resource for relevant external and internal (Mason) constituents; and coordinates scholarships or grants managed by International Enrollment Partnerships.

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with external sponsors and Mason units, such as OIPS, INTO Mason, Student Accounts, Registrar, Academic Departments, etc., the Sponsored Students Programs Coordinator serves as Mason’s principal administrator to manage the unique needs of the sponsored students and their agencies;
  • Manages the creation and collection of materials, documents, and other pertinent information related to sponsored student administration. Collects and compiles necessary data for the management of, and reporting on, Mason’s sponsored student population. Supports the compliance and monitoring of sponsored students policies and regulations established by the sponsoring agencies, Mason units, and the University;
  • Develops and maintains proper communication channels, administrative practices, and databases necessary to support all relevant goals of the various constituents. With direction from the Program Operations Manager, fosters and maintains strong relationships with Mason’s existing agency partners as well as the development of new strategic agency partners to increase the University’s sponsored student enrollment;
  • Provides direct support to sponsored students, and assists with special programs, orientations, workshops, and sponsored student recruitment events. Serves as the primary liaison between Mason units and the sponsored students and their agencies; and
  • Coordinates scholarships or grants managed by IEP. Provides support to special student populations such as refugees or displaced persons that are interested in applying to Mason.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Considerable relevant professional experience;
  • Experience working with international students and/or international education programs;
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural competency and/or foreign language skills; and
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field;
  • Experience with partnerships, program management, and/or project management;
  • Considerable experience working in higher education, a non-profit/NGO, or related governmental environment;
  • Experience with international student immigration regulations, international sponsored students, and/or sponsor student agencies;
  • Experience working with international students in a higher education setting;
  • Demonstrated ability to process and handle confidential information; and
  • Demonstrated ability to process information and identify approaches to problems.
