Job description

Job title: Sponsorship Manager

Directorate: Climate Services

Reporting to: Director of Climate Services

Job level: 4

Location: In or willing to work GMT to GMT-five work hours to assure at least three hours overlap with London and New York business hours.

Climate Bonds Initiative is seeking a dedicated and driven Sponsorship Manager to join our fast-growing organisation. As a leading investor-focused NGO, we are at the forefront of advancing green finance and mobilising global capital for climate action. With our unique certification scheme for green bonds, we provide crucial market analysis, policy advice, and advocate for ambitious change in the financial industry. We work closely with governments, investors, banks, and large companies to drive the transition towards a sustainable future.

As a Sponsorship Manager, you will play a vital role in sustaining our mission by securing sponsorship and partnership opportunities with key stakeholders. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining strong relationships with potential sponsors, identifying strategic collaboration opportunities, and ensuring the successful implementation of partnerships.

Joining our passionate and dynamic team, you will have the opportunity to work on a global scale and make a tangible impact in tackling climate change. We offer a positive and collaborative work environment, where innovation and initiative are encouraged, and professional development is supported.

Climate Bonds hosts a series of global events annually and produces a series of reports that are strategically important to the advancement of Climate Bonds’ mission and require sponsorships to fund their resourcing. This role has been created to provide focused funding development for this portfolio of sponsored work that Climate Bonds itself has chartered. This role will focus on non-grant sources and excludes responding to requests for proposals for work commissioned by other organisations.

The role combines elements of funding development, inside sales, customer success, and a strategic role in managing senior level relationships internally and externally. Success in this role will be measured by meeting and exceeding sponsorship revenue goals, but also in renewals of sponsorships, a measure of success from the sponsor’s perspective. The successful candidate will dedicate a considerable amount of their time to managing relationships with key people at sponsor organisations and working with colleagues to traverse their networks and diversify Climate Bonds sponsors.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Director of Climate Services (DoCS), and relevant team heads to develop a strategy and implementation plan to deliver on sponsored revenues. This plan will include lead lists of past sponsors to engage with, as well as a list of new organisations to pursue for funding.
  • Lead sales through direct pursuit, particularly for past sponsors, and seek leads and referrals from a Sponsorships Development Committee, to find new sponsors.
  • Coordinate with Sponsorship Development Committee to develop leads lists that will be tracked by the successful candidate in CRM and follow commitments by members to pursue leads and support by providing collateral, presenting, following up with leads, and closing sales.
  • Coordinate with sponsored (Events and Research) teams to improve marketability and the value proposition of sponsorships, including price setting and participating in proposals for enhancements to, deletions or additions of new event or research product.
  • Work with Marketing and Communications teams to develop and execute campaigns, materials and communications that improve the value of their work to sponsors and create demand for sponsorships.
  • Coordinate with sales support (sales administrative team) to leverage their capabilities to manage and qualify inbound enquiries and leads, and to use them as a resource for finalising contracts and invoicing details, and other available administrative services.
  • Work with sales teams to identify potential accounts to pursue and work jointly to pitch to these accounts. Provide inside sales support and close opportunities with leads that are introduced. Track these activities in CRM and coordinate with primary account holders.
  • Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with sponsors through the delivery of the work to assure that their goals as a sponsor are met and to improve their likelihood of ongoing sponsorship.
  • Using data in CRM produce reports on sponsorship sales and produce reliable sales forecasts, monthly.
