Role Overview

  • Enable work in local communities to make physical activity accessible and inclusive for everyone. The role will be instrumental in working across several programmes that give many people the opportunity to access physical activity. This will consist of working across programmes attached to schools but also community-based programmes.
  • The successful candidate will join our Sport and Activity Development team which has experience of delivering and supporting programmes across within Wandsworth. We are currently seeking a skilled Sport and Activity Assistant Officer to work closely with the Sport and Activity Officers to assist the coordination and delivery of several established projects.
  • The successful candidate will also join at a time where they will be able to help shape and implement a new youth development strategy to assist young people with any issues they may face in their development. You’ll be a self-starter who is comfortable with delivering sport sessions, creative with your approach to challenges and able to effectively communicate amongst many stakeholders.

Job Purpose

  • To assist the Borough Team Organiser for Wandsworth co-ordinating the entry process, team trials and training, marketing and promotion for the London Youth Games and attending competitions.
  • To manage selected Team Wandsworth entries in the London Youth Games through supporting the team coach with communication, entry, trials etc.
  • To assist on delivering the Wandsworth Schools Primary and Secondary School Competitions, specifically Cross Country, Athletics with a view to be leading an event within a year.
  • To assist with Team Wandsworth’s entry and participation to the annual Mini Marathon. Alongside attending the competition and managing a team.
  • To assist with any administrative support required to deliver the schools coaching programme.
  • To assist with the co-ordination and delivery of the Community Swim Programme, promoting learn to swim classes and co-ordinating with swim teachers.
  • Assist in the coordination of the local events and Festivals such as the Active Wandsworth Awards and Battersea Park Fireworks.
  • The successful candidate will require financial competence to help support several different finance processes used for invoicing etc.
  • To lead sport-based sessions in local schools throughout the week.
  • Support in the recruitment process of sports coaches, with the intention to lead. Following Enables recruitment and safeguarding processes.
  • To create marketing content which can be shared borough wide.
  • To review processes that can help improve efficiency to ensure Enable are able to keep up to date with the industry.
  • To develop and assist communication methods to our service users.
  • Lead on gathering and reporting KPI’s, which our then provided to WBC.
  • To be an active participant in ‘OneEnable’ supporting the wider company to achieve its goals within borough.
  • To assist with information gathering for funding applications and impact reports.
  • To support on delivery of any new projects/programmes.
  • To assist in liaising with key stake holders within the local community.
  • To assist with meeting financial and utilisation based targets.
  • To comply with all Enable Codes of practice and conduct, including policies and procedures concerning data protection, health and safety and safeguarding.

  • To apply a flexible approach to working in different environments including from home, community venues and Enable offices.
  • To travel inside or outside the borough when required.

Person Specification

  • Demonstrate experience of working with schools and community organisations and with a workforce, including coaches, instructors, and volunteers.
  • Able to demonstrate successful delivery of projects demonstrating growth and development of programmes.
  • Experience of managing relationships with different types of staff and organisations delivering sport and physical activity – from the sport, education, health, statutory and voluntary sectors.
  • Experienced in testing, trying, repeating, learning and being prepared to try again if unsuccessful.
  • Understanding of the importance of market research, insight data and marketing differently to different audiences, especially the challenges of engaging new audiences, and aware of the different tools available to support effective project delivery.
  • Experience and understanding of the importance of monitoring and evaluation and effective use of the analysis of the results.
  • Experience of assisting running events including recruiting staff and ensuring health and safety requirements such as risk assessments are completed.
  • Experience of recruiting, deploying, and managing coaches, instructors, volunteers, and young people.
  • Experience of successfully applying for external funding to support the ongoing running of activities.
  • A strong understanding of how to work with diverse groups and people and how to ensure the relationship built is impactful.
  • Ability to engage new partners, create strong, lasting, and effective connections working towards shared outcomes.
  • Proficient in managing several projects at once, prioritising and managing resources, information, and communications.
  • Able to handle a broad range and often large amount of information and analyse successfully to build a good understanding of people and organisations.
  • Confident, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to successfully promote and publicise programmes including the use of social media, creating web content and press releases.
  • Strong ability to learn and implement new IT methods to support the efficiency of the wider team, including experience of working with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Proven relevant experience – ideally in sports or community development.
  • To have a coaching qualification with an NGO/NGB.
  • Able to work outside of normal office hours including evenings and weekends.
  • A proven ability to work safely and effectively with minimal to little supervision.
  • Able to work unsupervised to agreed outcome, meeting deadlines and within a targeted work environment.
  • Able to travel around the Borough of Wandsworth and other London Boroughs to deliver and oversee programmes and competitions.
