We are offering a contract employment opportunity in the finance industry for a Sr. Accountant position, based in Toronto, Ontario. You will be part of our finance team, working closely with the Controller and CFO to provide high-level accounting support with a focus on the building project.Responsibilities:

  • Provide detailed accounting support for the school’s building project, ensuring accurate monitoring and reconciliation of soft costs.
  • Generate timely reports on building-related soft costs to aid financial decision-making.
  • Oversee the reconciliation of building project A/P bank transactions, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
  • Manage the reconciliation of donations from various portals, including Raisers’ Edge and Financial Edge.
  • Deliver accurate and up-to-date Building Fund updates to facilitate financial transparency and accountability.
  • Handle accounting functions for the School’s Cash Online and other student third-party portals.
  • Develop and maintain the school’s Asset Register, ensuring it reflects the most accurate and current data.
  • Carry out regular updates of cheque clearing data for accurate cash flow accounting.
  • Conduct audit processes and bank reconciliations to ensure financial compliance and accuracy.
  • Participate in full-cycle accounting tasks, including the preparation of financial statements and reports
  • Possession of a minimum of 5 years of experience in an accounting role, preferably as a Sr. Accountant
  • Demonstrated expertise in Audit processes and procedures
  • Proficient in Bank Reconciliations
  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience with Full Cycle Accounting
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting or a related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification is preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and accounting software
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
