Job description
This is a short term contract. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in managing the financial operations of the church and its affiliated properties. This role includes overseeing full-cycle accounting functions, preparing financial statements, managing property-related contracts, and ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures.Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain full-cycle accounting, including AP/AR, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and general ledger management.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the church and its property holdings.
- Oversee and manage all financial aspects of the three properties, including lease agreements, rent collection, maintenance contracts, and other property-related financial obligations.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions.
- Coordinate and support annual audits and prepare audit documentation.
- Monitor and report on budget variances and provide financial analysis and recommendations to leadership.
- Collaborate with church leadership on financial planning, stewardship, and compliance with relevant regulations and tax filings.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records, including contract documentation for property management.
- Liaise with property tenants and vendors regarding invoicing, contracts, and payment matters.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior accounting role, ideally with exposure to non-profit or property management sectors.
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.
- Experience managing contracts and lease agreements for real estate assets.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and Property management software
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with church leadership and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with non-profit accounting and CRA regulations is an asset.
