Permanent Full Time–A unique opportunity in Financial Risk Management to apply your credit expertise and strong communication skills to develop guidance and risk advice for senior stakeholders.The Financial Risk Management team provides independent advice to senior management and the Board of Directors, and helps to support the oversight of market, credit and liquidity risks, and investment strategies across our group of companies. We will continually encourage you to develop and excel in all areas of your role.Under the supervision of the AVP, Credit Adjudication, you will provide oversight of commercial mortgages by independently reviewing ratings, improving review processes, and working closely with investment teams to ensure that potential risks of investments are properly identified, mitigated and managed.What you will doYou will play a key role in supporting the development and management of the Company’s enterprise-wide framework for credit risk with the following deliverables:
- Regularly review and independently assess the creditworthiness of existing commercial mortgages, including detailed review of supporting documentation (rating models, investment summaries, market reports and other material)
- Evaluate the risk rating of proposed new commercial mortgages to assess whether the current assessment is appropriate and accurate, and the mortgages are suitable investments
- Detailed review of supporting documentation including rating models, investment summaries, market reports and other material
- Discuss and resolve any differences in opinion with Mortgage Investment team
- Improve the independent oversight activities of the adjudication team as a whole (e.g. assist with streamlining reporting) by enhancing effectiveness and efficiency and using industry best practices
- Proactively monitor changes in macroeconomics and the global commercial real estate market, including trends, industry practice, legal and other regulatory issues that pertain to credit risk management and governance, in order to ensure that risks are properly identified, monitored and managed
- Assist the AVP, Credit adjudication with thematic reviews on real estate to manage risks related to industry trends
- Work with other areas of Financial Risk function team to support ongoing review and development of mortgage risk rating models and reporting, as well as on other activities performed by the team
- Collaborate across the organization and through internal partnerships to ensure that potential risks of investments are properly identified and mitigated
What you will bring
- An undergraduate/graduate degree in business, finance or economics and/or a professional designation such as the CFA
- 7+ years experience in credit/investment review, preferably at a bank, insurer, or rating agency
- Knowledge of the credit risk rating process and experience with commercial mortgage lending
- Creative and strategic thinking with proven analytical and problem-solving skills to identify meaningful solutions
- Experience in the understanding of finance and accounting principles
- Knowledge and interest in financial risk management and investments
- Superior analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills (including ability to simplify technical issues)
- Participates effectively in cross-functional and cross-regional teams
- Proven ability to develop strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
- Technically proficient in Microsoft Office suite

Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located in the following office locations: Toronto, Winnipeg–The base salary for this position is between $74,500 – $137,900 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
