This internship is UNPAID and is designed to be (in person or remote) and full-time (35 hours per week), on the United Nations premise working arrangement from (New York, USA). This internship is designed to be full-time and in-person but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate to part-time (20 hours per week) and/or remote. A full-time internship is for an initial period of two months, and a part-time internship is for an initial four months. Internships may be extended up to a maximum of six months, depending on the needs of the Division. This position is located within the Security Sector Reform Unit (SSRU) in the Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI), Department of Peace Operations (DPO), United Nations (UN) Secretariat. The Knowledge Management Intern reports to the Deputy Director of SSRU and/or his delegate based in New York. This internship is UNPAID and is designed to be in person and full-time (35 hours per week). It can be adapted for remote and/or part-time (20 hours per week) upon request. A full-time internship is for an initial period of two months and a part-time internship is for an initial of four months. Internships may be extended up to maximum six months depending on the needs of the Division. Within delegated authority, the Knowledge Management Intern will be responsible for the following duties: Knowledge Hub Development • Design the first-ever UN Security Sector Reform & Governance (SSR/G) Knowledge Hub (SSR-KH) in Sharepoint. • Source SSR materials (documents and video) for the SSR-KH from all 15 members of the UN SSR Inter-agency SSR Task Force and organize them in an easily accessible logical structure. Knowledge Hub Launch • Organize an online event to launch the SSR-KH, including personnel from all 15 members of the UN SSR Inter-agency SSR Task Force. Knowledge Hub Operation and Maintenance • Develop, in coordination with SSR-KH members, a 12-month ‘priority topics of discussion’ plan. • Initiate and moderate monthly discussions on the SSR-KH, in line with priority topics of discussion. • Serve as the SSR-KH ‘call centre’ and answer requests for SSR/G information from UN personnel. • Where necessary, coordinate requests for information with SSRU and Inter-agency SSR Task Force personnel. • Identify and utilise opportunities to promote the SSR-KH within the UN system. • Update and maintain state of the SSR materials on the SSR-KH. • Analyse the effectiveness of the new knowledge management system by observing usage and evaluating its impact, opportunities, and challenges. • Identify problems and issues to be addressed and initiate corrective actions.Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
