Strategic Design (SD) is one of several Centres of Excellence within RBCx. This team is made up of top talent from across a variety of disciplines (research, design, content, etc.) and leverages proven human-centred design methods to discover new and enhance existing venture businesses, such as Mydoh.

Mydoh, one of several venture businesses created and built at RBCx, is a money management app and Smart Cash Card designed to help parents help their kids gain money skills and build financial literacy. WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

We’re looking for a Staff Product Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate is a master-craft individual performer who leverages their deep expertise to support the development of our design strategy and product vision. They leverage their experience and know-how to elevate Mydoh’s specific and SD’s broader design practices and set a high bar for quality through exceptional, thoughtful design and execution. They also provide executive oversight, coaching and mentorship, and indispensable advice and inspiration to a team of designers and cross-functional team members across Mydoh and SD. They attract top talent and elevate performance through their influence and leadership, while leaving direct people management and administrative duties to other leaders on team.

We’re looking for someone who can apply design thinking and human-centred design methodologies to define and design our north star customer experiences, and collaborate with other designers, developers, and product managers to refine current state products and services. We also want someone who will push our creativity and technical innovation, leaning on their experience and proven record of designing similarly high-performing and engaging mobile apps, banking, and/or payment solutions.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Be a visionary, setting a high bar for design and pushing our thinking to reimagine what Mydoh can be

Independently and collaboratively to discover, produce, execute, and validate solutions end-to-end that transforms Mydoh’s user experience

Work with close-knit design teams and agile pods on large-scale initiatives to create a better end-to-end experience across our mobile app and payment vehicles

Apply systems thinking to the creation, maintenance, and growth of our design system⁠, ensuring consistency and simplicity at every touch point

Leverage strong storytelling to build trust with partners and influence the direction of our business; Communicate and develop relationships with team members and stakeholders at all levels of the organisation

Adapt your skill sets across challenges within the product life cycle – from identifying problems, research, ideation, and execution

Leverage qualitative and quantitative consumer research to inform design decisions ensuring that Mydoh (among other ventures) deliver on our customers’ wants and needs

Work with agile pod teams to provide coaching and quality assurance on our design outputs

Demonstrate good judgement in evaluating talent; provides feedback to shape the design practice

Partner with other design leaders across SD and RBCx to share best practices, assess talent, and push the level of quality delivered across all ventures

Build your brand as a thought leader, elevating your profile within and outside of RBC and showcasing that SD is a leader in design best practices

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Comfort in asking “why?” – you believe in data-driven decision making that leads to unique solutions to user problems

A deep collaborative approach to problem solving – you understand how to build relationships, actively listen, and work with others to move our business forward

Support for continuous and iterative improvement – you are comfortable and an advocate of design thinking and agile methods

Being meticulous and precious – you advocate and deliver beautiful visual design balanced with intuitive and elegant UX

An adaptive mindset that is able to navigate challenging and ambiguous problems

Must Haves:

7-10 years of digital product design experience or a similar role

A deep portfolio that illustrates a range of strategic thinking, research, interaction design, and visual design

Expertise with industry-standard design tools such as: Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, among other tools

Excel at advocating for design recommendations, storytelling and providing/receiving constructive feedback

Hands-on experience working in an agile environment

Experience with defining information architecture, interaction patterns, and user flows

Experience interpreting user feedback and behaviour insights while informing and proposing new consumer/UX research and information collection techniques

Deep understanding of core design principles related to typography, information hierarchy, colour theory, the use of white space, etc

Experience implementing design reviews, product design processes and design hand-off practices while finding ways to optimise and enhance these processes

Undergraduate degree in Design (e.g., interaction, visual communications, product, industrial) or a related field or equivalent experience

Nice-to-haves:

Experience in fintechs or startups leading digital banking, payments, and/or financial product development

Experience in Banking or Financial Services, and/or at large, matrixed organisations

Experience in designing digital experiences or games for children, teens, and/or families

A strong understanding of Accessibility and Inclusive Design practices

Advanced design in Design, Product Management, Software Engineering, or related fields

Exploratory work with new AI-driven tools that supplement or augment the work of designers, researchers, and/or developers
