As the premier research and data arm of the World Bank, DEC supports informed decision-making and strategic planning.The Development Data Group (DECDG), under DEC, delivers global public goods, including methodologies, standards, and tools essential for data work, along with high-quality development indicators and datasets. DECDG also strengthens statistical capacity in member countries, promotes the use of development data across the World Bank, and manages Trust Funds supporting the global data agenda. DECDG’s work requires extensive collaboration with the World Bank’s Global Practices and country teams, other international organizations, and national statistical offices worldwide.The International Comparison Program (ICP)-one of the world’s largest statistical initiatives-is led by the World Bank under the auspices of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC). Its main objective is to estimate purchasing power parities (PPPs) to produce comparable price levels and gross domestic product (GDP) measures. The ICP accomplishes this by collecting and analyzing price and GDP expenditure data through partnerships with international, regional, sub-regional, and national agencies. PPPs, and related measures, are essential for analyses by policymakers, multilateral institutions, academia, and the private sector, supporting initiatives such as poverty measurement, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) tracking, and various administrative applications by the World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF), Eurostat, and others.DECDG oversees the global management and implementation of the ICP, ensuring coordination and alignment with the program’s governance framework. DECDG manages daily operations, serves as the secretariat for governance bodies like the ICP Technical Advisory Group and Inter-Agency Coordination Group, and is responsible for producing and disseminating global ICP results.ResponsibilitiesDECDG is seeking a Statistician with extensive expertise in international and national price and volume comparisons. Responsibilities include:-Developing, maintaining, and enhancing operational approaches for conducting ICP price surveys, data collections, and related comparisons.-Coordinating the compilation, quality assurance, and analysis of prices, GDP expenditures, and auxiliary data, such as consumer price indices and national accounts deflators, in collaboration with ICP partners.-Providing technical assistance to regional and national agencies on ICP operational approaches for price surveys, GDP expenditure compilation, and data quality assurance, and offering strategic guidance on the implementation of regional programs.-Contributing to the estimation of purchasing power parities (PPP).-Supporting regional and national agencies in adopting modern PPP production systems.-Conducting research on methods for estimating PPPs and related measures.-Contribute to maintaining ICP classifications in alignment with the latest international statistical standards.-Assisting in the preparation of reports, research papers, knowledge resources, and outreach materials.-Delivering technical presentations at conferences, meetings, and other professional venues.-Providing support to ICP data users and researchers on the use of PPPs, related measures, and underlying data.-Supporting additional workflow needs within DECDG, as required.Selection Criteria-Master’s degree in data science, economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field.-At least 5 years of directly relevant professional experience.-Proven experience in international and national price and volume comparisons; experience working with National Statistical Offices is an advantage.-Strong commitment to high-quality work, with excellent conceptual and analytical problem-solving skills.-Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams, navigate multicultural environments with sensitivity, and build strong working relationships.-Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.-High proficiency in statistical and data management software, such as Stata, R, and SAS, as well as geospatial software and Microsoft Office.The World Bank Group offers comprehensive benefits, including a retirement plan; medical, life and disability insurance; and paid leave, including parental leave, as well as reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities.We are proud to be an equal opportunity and inclusive employer with a dedicated and committed workforce, and do not discriminate based on gender, gender identity, religion, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or disability.Learn more about working at the and , including our values and inspiring stories.
