Job Description:What makes this role important at Ipsos?Statisticians are members of the US Public Affairs’ Data Analytics and Applied Sciences (DAAS) group. DAAS is a team of statisticians, behavioral scientists, and survey specialists based in Ipsos’s offices throughout the US. DAAS develops custom, high-quality data and analytic solutions and insights used across the US Public Affairs (USPA) practice. DAAS researchers are passionate about research, data, solving problems, and innovation.The Statistician will be integral to designing and delivering high quality research for a range of USPA clients from across our US Federal, nonprofit, and NGO portfolios. The Statistician may also support on delivering work via Ipsos KnowledgePanel. KnowledgePanel is Ipsos’s proprietary probability panel, consisting of over 60,000 active members, and projectable to individuals and households across the US.The successful candidate will have substantial training or experience in the analysis of complex sample survey data, sampling, weighting, longitudinal data analysis, and GLMs. Experience with experimental design, Bayesian methods, machine learning, and/or small area estimation is preferred. More generally, we are looking for a self-starter who is intellectually flexible, has a practical approach to problem solving, and has a strong interest in social and behavioral research. Applicants should be comfortable working across multidisciplinary teams, and communicating ideas and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.What you can expect to be doing:

  • Data analysis: Applying a broad set of statistical techniques for inference and forecasting, multiple comparisons, causal analysis, and longitudinal analysis (such as growth curve modeling, time series, survival analysis);
  • Sample adjustments and data integration: Generating survey weights and applying nonresponse adjustments, and blending sample survey data with administrative data and other data types;
  • Research design: Translating research and policy questions into robust yet practical data collection and analytic frameworks, performing complex power analyses, consulting peer- reviewed literatures to assess and operationalize analytic solutions, collaborating on drafting analysis and weighting plans as well as proposal sections;
  • Reporting and client deliverables: Working as part of interdisciplinary teams to interpret, stresstest, and cross-validate study findings, automating visualizations and insights, and communicating results to clients and stakeholders in verbal and written form.
  • The Statistician may have the opportunity to present original work at research and industry conferences, conduct or contribute to internal trainings or seminars, and participate in internal strategic initiatives and special projects

This might be the job for you if you have:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in statistics or survey methodology, with at least 5 years applied research experience working directly with survey data. We will consider M.S. and Ph.D. applicants from social and behavioral science fields with strong quantitative skills and substantial experience with complex sample survey data. Experience with US Federal databases a plus.
  • US Citizenship
  • Strong skills in both R and SAS
  • Superior organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a strong client service orientation
  • Unflagging attention to detail, and demonstrated commitment to the accuracy and completeness of information, quality of results, and robustness of findings.
  • Self-directed and highly-motivated, capable of working with minimal supervision with a high level of initiative within tight and shifting timelines.
  • Team-player and flexible thinker, with enthusiasm for learning and innovation.
  • Leadership potential (as a mentor, and/or thought-leader).
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
