Background

The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) leads the organization in cultivating, building, and nurturing strategic relationships and alliances that are essential for advancing and successfully achieving the mission of UNDP. These relationships encompass a wide range of key constituencies and development partners, that include traditional donors, programme countries, emerging economies, multilateral institutions such as the IFIs, the European Commission, civil society, the private sector, foundations, academia and think tanks, the wider UN system, various UN inter-governmental bodies, as well as global, regional and national media.

The Strategic Analysis and Corporate Engagement (SACE) team is located in the BERA Directorate and works closely with the different teams within the Bureau: Advocacy, Marketing and Communications Group; Public Partnership Group; Representation Offices; and the Sustainable Finance Hub. SACE also collaborates with the Executive Office, UNDP’s central and regional bureaus, and other agencies and partners.

SACE’s purpose is to serve as the ‘nerve centre’ for providing forward-looking strategic analysis and advice to senior leadership on the overall strategy and tactical positioning of the Bureau. The team helps drive UNDP’s resource mobilization strategy, the shift to a thematic funding approach, and overall corporate engagement. Given the shifting and challenging funding landscape, the SACE team is expected to closely monitor and understand the trends in development finance, policy shifts affecting the multilateral system, and identifying implications for UNDP and its position and resource mobilization efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Strategy and Analysis Intern will work closely with the SACE team and carry out the following tasks:

– Provide analytical and strategic support to the SACE team concerning funding sensitivity analysis, resource mobilization strategy, funding dialogues, strategic foresight, and innovative finance.
– Research, compile, organize, and visualize funding data, focusing on ODA, public and private finance, aid policy shifts
– Assist in following up on key corporate processes including strategic plan reviews, integrated work planning, risk management, reporting, etc.
– Contribute to the production of concise briefs, presentations, blogs, and updates for senior managers, working across teams at HQ and Representation Offices.
– Provide ad hoc support on relevant assignments as required

Required Skills and Experience

Eligibility:

– Currently enrolled in a Master’s / postgraduate university in public administration, MBA, economics, international relations, or a related field
Experience:

– Knowledge and experience in international development and finance, business strategy development, public-private partnership, and related areas
– Experience in research, analyzing, synthesizing, and visualizing large and complex funding data, and producing knowledge products – policy briefs, blogs, research papers, and other advocacy materials
– Relevant experience in strategic analysis, fundraising, partnership, scenario planning and foresight, and innovative finance is desirable
