Reporting to the Assistant Director, you will join a key team at the Bank focused on technical leadership, evolution, support, and ongoing maintenance of our middleware services. Our team is made up of 10-15 members across multiple domains and work in an open-minded environment and are encouraged to experiment and keep abreast of industry evolutions.You will also have many opportunities for career development – both inside and outside of the portfolio. As a System Integrator Lead, you will lead the team through key contributions to all middleware initiatives required for platform maintenance and evolution. This position will be required to follow the Bank’s Hybrid work policy and on-call as needed out of our Ottawa office.More specifically, you will:
- Act as a subject-matter-expert in the team in exploring and adopting the use of integration within new technologies and methods.
- Ensure that the integration of services, data flow and infrastructure architectures meet evolving business and operational requirements as well as standards for reliability, scalability and availability
- Lead, support, and coach others in best practices for implementing configuration management for middleware infrastructure
- Analyze and monitor system performance based on service-level agreements and ensure that they are met, working with vendors as required
- Identify technical issues and risks and define mitigation approach
- Provide production support working with operational support groups to determine the root cause behind critical production incidents and process challenges
- Identify major performance bottlenecks in the system and identify the impact of tasks on core business scenarios
- Identify causes and implement solutions to more complex/uncommon business problems in a multi-functional setting, assessing and communicating issues of technology impact on the functional/corporate level
- Restore services as soon as possible; participate in root-cause analysis; develop and implement permanent solutions to problems; and establish mechanisms to monitor, track and report on service levels using metrics
- Participate in planning and execution of testing related to performance, disaster recovery and business continuity
Note – The nature of this work will require additional paid on-call support on a rotational basis as well as potentially paid overtime. The Bank offers flexible work hours to accommodate.What you need to succeed
You are self-motivated and independent, capable of finding solutions that challenge the status quo. You are also a great team player with strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate & coach colleagues within the team and build/sustain relationships with cross-functional groups.Also, you can work on call and/or overtime as needed acting as a leader and technology owner; coordinating change and resolving issues across multiple concurrent projects and high-visibility applications.In addition, you have:
- 8+ years’ of proven experience as a Middleware Specialist (or similar role)
- Experience and proven ability to work in a leadership role within a technology team
- Experience with some of the following technologies:
- PaaS (OpenShift), Kubernetes, Azure ARO, AKS
- IBM DataStage, IBM DataPower, MQ service and/or JBoss
- Oracle WebLogic Application Server (version 10.3 or higher in standard and clustered mode)
- Other J2EE application servers like IBM WebSphere (Portal) or RedHat JBoss EAP 6/7.x
- Oracle Fusion middleware: Oracle WebLogic, Forms and reports, Oracle Internet Directory and SOA Suite
- Performance monitoring tools (e.g., EMGrid and Systems Center Operations Manager (SCOM))
- Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid
- Linux/Unix administration
Nice-to-have
- Experience with managing and supporting AKS and/or ARO
- Previous experience working with containers
- Experience with most technologies listed above
- Experience with Oracle 12c/14c Technology platform (SOA Suite, OID, WebLogic, FRS) and 19c Database
- Previous experience working in a major financial/banking enterprise environment
- Previous experience working in a Agile/Scrum environment
- Any relevant designations/certifications
Your education and experience
Your combined education and work experience demonstrate that you have the competencies and skills for this Senior position. We are ideally seeking candidates with a relevant education (computer science, etc.) and 8+ years of relevant experience.What you need to know

- Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $124,279 to $124,279 (job grade 18)
- The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at 7 to 10% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (5%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
