This is an exciting opportunity to join the Tax Services team at the University of Nottingham as Tax Assistant. The Tax Services team is responsible for ensuring the university’s compliance with tax legislation both in the UK and overseas, with the main focus being on VAT and sales taxes, employment taxes and import/export reports. The team has a wide range of customers, both within the Finance team and in the wider university community. The Tax Assistant will be a varied role, supporting the subject matter experts within the team to provide advice and support to the customer base, as well as completing accurate and timely reporting to HMRC. As Tax Assistant, you will support the entire team, gaining knowledge and experience across all the different taxes.

To apply for the role you should have an interest in tax, and either an HNC level qualification (or equivalent), or experience in a finance role. A basic understanding of UK tax legislation is required, but on the job training will be provided, particularly for sector specific tax issues. As customer service is a key part of this role, you will have excellent communication skills.

This role is fixed term until 31st May 2025. Hours of work are full-time (36.25 hours); however, applications are also welcome from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 25 hours per week). Please specify in your application if you wish to work part time and the number of preferred hours. Arrangements for job share may be considered.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

The role will come with 26 days annual leave, public holidays and university closure days (pro rata for part time) and can offer on site or hybrid working across all university campuses.

Please see role profile for further details.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Christina Campbell by email at [email protected]. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
