This role includes basic tax and audit duties.This is the ideal role for a proactive, professional individual who can learn and adapt quickly, with strong interpersonal skills, keen attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.This position offers someone who has an accounting education the opportunity to join an effective team within an established, successful business, help make a meaningful contribution by collaborating with the teams to develop and implement best practice policies and procedures to meet set objectives. This is an entry level accounting position, which could potentially develop the successful candidate into a Property Accountant.Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Facilitate external audits by gathering and uploading requested files and documentation
- Coordinate with external auditors to manage and track audits and tax returns undertaken by strata clients
- Prepare basic T2 and T1044 tax filings for our condo clients
- Prepare other basic tax related filings including but not limited to: GST, and UHT
- Communicate and work with inter-office department teams, including but not limited to: Operations, Administration and Human Resources
- Perform month end bank reconciliations
- Run monthly recurring journal entries
- Run other recurring entries and processes
- Perform or assist with operations to help support the client accounting team, including but not limited to: completing general ledger entries, adjusting journal entries, daily accounting recording, and monthly financial statement preparation
Additional Duties & Responsibilities
- Practice and adhere to FirstService Residential Global Service Standards.
- Conduct business at all times with the highest standards of personal, professional and ethical conduct.
- Perform or assist with any operations as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies.
- May participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
- Ensure all safety precautions are followed while performing the work.
- Follow all policies and Standard Operating Procedures as instructed by Management.
- Perform any range of special projects, tasks and other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
- Minimum of a high school certification and a post secondary related certificate and/or related experience. Working towards an accounting diploma/designation is a definite asset.
- Full cycle accounting or tax experience is an asset
- Administrative experience is an asset
- Analytical and financial skills
- Experience in a fast paced – customer focused organization
- Although training is provided, knowledge of condominiums, property management or real estate would be considered a definite asset.
- Must be able to communicate with an advanced level of written and spoken English
Knowledge and Experience:
The successful candidate will ideally possess a minimum of six month’s experience in a similar role, or equivalent educational background, and have excellent time management and prioritization skills, as well as have demonstrated commitment, loyalty, and a high standard of work ethics.Familiarity with general accounting processes and the T2 & T1044s is desirable.
The role includes communicating with internal contacts within the organization, as well as external client contacts.
