Journalism, Media and Communication is an integral part and we have an opportunity to appoint a Teaching Associate to join our busy team.FTE: 0.5 (17.5 hours/week)Term: Fixed Term (28 months)The Department of Humanities is a community of researchers, teachers, students, and support staff working together on some of the most interesting and exciting issues in contemporary culture. Journalism, Media and Communication (JMC) is an integral part of the Department and wider University with a popular joint-honours undergraduate degree, three Masters programmes (in Media & Communications, Digital Journalism and Gender Studies) and a growing PhD community. Our world-leading research is concentrated around key themes in gender & media; science, health & environment; politics, publics & activism; and violence & conflict.We seek to appoint a Teaching Associate to join our JMC subject team, on a 0.5 FTE fixed-term contract. We welcome applicants with specialisms in any area of media and communication but are particularly keen to attract applicants who can contribute to teaching on gender and media as well as core media and communication theories. An ability to contribute to our masters provision in Applied Gender Studies as well as Media & Communication will be an advantage.The role involves delivering a range of established teaching modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with guidance as required, in a manner that supports a research-informed approach to student learning; undertaking student assessment and examination activities, with guidance, including the provision of appropriate feedback to students; supervision of students as required, providing direction, support and guidance and contributing to curriculum development activities.To be considered for the role, you will have a good honours degree and PhD (or nearing PhD completion or have equivalent professional experience) in an appropriate discipline; have the ability to deliver a range of existing teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level (including experience of assessing student performance, providing student feedback and pastoral care) and the ability to translate knowledge of advances in subject area into teaching and assessment methods and materials. You will have excellent communication skills, with the ability to listen, engage and persuade, and to present complex information in an accessible way to a range of audiences.Experience of supervising students and developing curriculum would is desirable.Formal interviews for this post will be held in the week commencing 2nd of October.Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Dr Fiona McKay, Deputy Subject Leader (Email: ).£36,024 to £44,263 (pro rata)
