What will you be doing!

  • Being responsible for processing multi-province bi-weekly payroll for CNL’s non-union and multi-union employees using an in-house payroll system. This includes reviewing and submitting pay biweekly, maintaining audit requirements and standards.
  • Planning, coordinating, and executing year-end processes to issuing T4s, T4As, Releve1, and T2200s accurately and within CRA guidelines.
  • Ensuring accurately and timely issuing of statutory payments and remittances such as source deductions, WSIB, WCB, union dues, benefits, garnishments, and pension plans.
  • Implementing collective bargaining agreements, new compensation models, and group benefit changes in the payroll system.
  • Performing complex payroll calculations – retro, vacation, and termination payments.
  • Working with internal and external auditors, providing support for accruals, controls, and walking through.
  • Providing support to General Accounting on calculating labour rates used in project costing and GL account reconciliations.
  • Providing oversight on administering and coordinating support on day-to-day tasks, programs, and initiatives within the department.
  • Creating and scheduling internal and training activities for the Payroll Services Team as processes or procedure changes are happening or new staff is being hired.
  • Reviewing, updating, and maintaining Payroll-related documentation, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Providing advice and guidance to the Payroll Services team about payroll policy information and interpreting collective agreements and/or legislation to internal customers on payroll matters, including but not limited to the employee life cycle, which includes new arrivals, staffing action changes, leaves of absences, and off-boarding.
  • Providing advice on interpreting and implementing Company policies, procedures, and collective agreements.
  • Identifying issues with and suggesting and/or implementing potential improvements to processes/procedures in own area and beyond in related areas.
  • Encouraging/supporting innovation among others, extending to related areas.
  • Providing input on cross-departmental and potentially portfolio-scale change.
  • Residing as a payroll system expert, including system integration and support.
  • Providing support and maintaining system upgrades, development, and testing.
  • Identifying ServiceNow standards to processes within the workflow tool.

What we are looking for:

  • Degree or diploma from a college or university program in the field of Human Resources or Business Administration.

PCP with the National Payroll Institute. * PLP designation would be an asset.

  • 5+ years of Payroll Processing, including advanced knowledge of unionized environments, compliance with regulatory government and legal requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience administering pension plans and payroll related requirements.
  • Proficient using HRMS and payroll system software, Dayforce, Oracle, ServiceNow
  • Must have the ability to work, plan and prepare own work schedule; develop, measure, and assess goals; manage time, all under demanding and diverse situations and stressful deadlines.
  • Strong customer service skills with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with team members as well as internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality related to corporate, personal, and sensitive information.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail is essential.
  • Functional knowledge and proficiency with systems-based tools such as Microsoft Office.
  • Proactive, independent thinking, self-starter, demonstrating strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be highly organized, possess strong analytical abilities and interpersonal skill.
  • Must have the ability to comprehend and relay information concisely and accurately, and to work with minimum supervision in an environment requiring initiative and the ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Must be able to see the ‘big picture’, by having a solid understanding of how all the pieces fit together as changes apply not only to individual employees but to other systems as well.
  • Good oral and written communication skills along with the ability to positively motivate, mentor, build and maintain good teams with a collaborative attitude.
  • Must be aware of and embrace the ever-changing work environment and proactively make recommendations to change. Must be a “change agent” who is willing to help others to accept and understand change, share
  • their skills, and proactively learn new skills.
  • Strong working knowledge and ability to interpret the Canada Labour Code, Collective Agreements and Company Procedures.
  • Strong working knowledge of Payroll end to end processing, monthly and quarterly reporting, and calendar year end deliverables.
  • Strong Knowledge of Payroll Software and Supporting systems
  • Ability to consult, support and liaise effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders

Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom.

Location:
