Our Deuterium and Tritium Technologies Branch is looking for Technical Officers!Intro
The incumbent will be part of a well-established team of professionals and technologists specializing in the fields of tritium and heavy water technologies, catalyst development, and energy storage technologies. The team’s objective is to support CNL’s Value Proposition through the Science & Technology (S&T) Directorate Structure (Advanced Reactors, Hydrogen & Tritium Technologies, Isotopes Radiobiology & Environment, Reactor Fleet Sustainability, and Safety & Security). The team is actively involved in developing, assessing and facilitating commercialization of innovative leading edge technologies through Business Development and Commercial Ventures Organization at CNL.The main mandate/function of the incumbent’s position is in carrying out experimental work in the above area, as well as training to become a qualified member for tritium handling operations in the licenced facility. The incumbent will be responsible for delivering on commitments on Federal S&T as well as Commercial Projects. The incumbent is expected to develop and maintain core competencies for emerging opportunities in the above and related fields. The following are general areas of branch activities:

  • Heavy water management/production/upgrading based on CNL’s catalyst and process engineering technologies
  • Tritium removal processes
  • Development of technologies used in fuel cycles of fusion power plants
  • Tritium adsorption on nanomaterials and nanostructured thin films
  • Fabrication and characterization of nanomaterials and nanostructured thin films for photovoltaic and betavoltaic devices
  • Deployment of CNL’s catalyst technologies

What will you be doing!

  • Carry out all responsibilities safely and accurately by strictly following protocols and procedures
  • Initial responsibility – on the job training under the supervision of a senior/experienced staff member
  • Production of CNL’s proprietary catalysts in small and large scale for various applications
  • Completing daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly activities related to routine laboratory operations such as equipment calibration, housekeeping and waste disposal coordination
  • Setting up of experimental and production facilities for R&D and commercial projects
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Handling toxic and hazardous chemicals, flammable and explosive gasses and radioactive materials
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for :

  • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology in a field relevant to the position, such as Chemical Technology, Chemistry, Physics or Engineering, or equivalent formal education OR
  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent and normally has more than 3 years pertinent experience or equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training
  • Experience in chemical laboratory practices and safety procedures is considered an asset
  • Some chemical engineering laboratory operational experience is considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of chemical analysis techniques and equipment
  • Basic computer skills with word processing and spreadsheet knowledge
  • Knowledgeable in Quality Assurance requirements in lab activities is considered an asset

Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. .
