The Alamance County YMCA is seeking to fill the position of Teen Director.

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Youth and Sports, the Teen Director is responsible for leading and developing assigned Teen Programs, part-time teen program staff and volunteers. They must run the program with safety in the forefront. The Teen Director is responsible for managing the functions of the program in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred and/or 1-2 years of related experience.
  • Experienced in and passionate about creating and fostering communities and relationship building through programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in teen programs and personnel development.
  • Ability to effectively manage staff, volunteers, programs and department schedules.
  • Exceptional oral, public speaking and written communication skills.
  • Possess a high level of organization, ability to prioritize and possess the capacity to respond and handle multiple tasks appropriately in a dynamic and fast paced work environment.
  • Requires a positive attitude, high level of initiative and professionalism, and enjoy working in and creating a strong team environment.
  • Demonstrate initiative, effectively prioritize, and possess strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Multi-lingual desired but not required.

Essential Functions

  • Contributes to and supervises the fulfillment of the YMCA mission through the Teen Department activities and programs.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  • Supports the overall vision for youth and overall YMCA initiatives.
  • Plans and promotes high quality and engaging programming for assigned programs, with an emphasis on safety, relationships, skill development, character development, group control and fun.
  • Plans and organizes day-to-day operations and is present in assigned programs including daily program schedules and staff schedules.
  • Continually evaluates, improves, and innovates all assigned programs to ensure they meet or exceed Association guidelines and standards.
  • Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  • Maintains all records of their assigned programs that are necessary for the operation of the department and YMCA effectively.
  • Recruits and incorporates volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success.
  • Maintains current and required certifications and records for staff.
  • Attends all meetings that are pertinent to this position including Y Leadership trainings, NC Alliance Teen Director Peer Network Meetings, YMCA Director Meetings, and relevant task forces and affinity groups.
  • Assists with the YMCA Annual Campaign through development of staff team, recruiting volunteers and meeting annual fundraising goals as assigned.
  • Fulfills department/YMCA obligations as required by supervisor/Chief Operating Officer.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule, which is predominantly evenings and weekends.
  • Direct Program Oversight:
  • Develop, launch, lead, supervise and grow a YMCA Leaders Club Program
  • Develop, lead, supervise, and grow Youth and Government and Middle School Model United Nations programs.
  • Lead, supervise and grow Camper in Leadership Training (CILT) and Counselor in Training (CIT) programs
  • Build relationships and engagement with teen volunteers
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Required Certifications
