Job description
The Toolmaker (Machinist) is responsible for the process involved in the fabrication of components/prototypes, from the interpretation of design drawings/sketches, through to the actual fabrication process maintaining schedule compliance in support of Manufacturing Services Branch deliverables and in compliance with Quality Assurance (QA) programs.
What you will be doing!
Functions and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
· Review, understand and plan method to complete work and provide work estimate for the work package in conjunction with the project leader at the customer work request stage that will subsequently be assigned by supervision / lead hand to available tradesperson.
· Assemble all necessary material, components and tooling required to complete the manufacturing process and remain compliant within the Quality Assurance program.
· Plan the execution of the manufacturing steps, at the shop floor level, outlined within the work package using a variety of conventional and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machine Shop equipment and associated tooling.
· Ensure that all material supplied and components being fabricated remain compliant with designated Q.A. standards by frequent self checks throughout the fabrication process utilizing a variety of measuring tools, such as micrometers, calipers and gauges etc.
· Complete the machining processes outlined in the designated work packages and inspect final product for machinery differences such as burrs, sharp edges and flaws and take action to prepare the component for final Q.A. inspection by designated regulator.
· Maintain good housekeeping practices of all work areas, tools and equipment, adhering to provincial, federal and CNL regulations in order to provide a safe and efficient working environment. Attend monthly safety meetings and immediately report any safety concerns and/or infractions. · Assist in the training, coaching and mentoring of apprentices and co-op students in safe workshop practices and procedures including work planning, assisting and development of skills by demonstrating techniques, describing suitable methods. Monitor, assess and correct work performance, discuss problems and improvements and report progress to supervisor and identify further training needs.
What we are looking for:
Education
· Secondary school graduation diploma and qualification as a Machinist or Tool & Die maker typically acquired through the completion of the required 8000-hour apprenticeship or equivalent.
Abilities and Skills
· Knowledge of Conventional (Manual) and C.N.C. (Computer Numerical Control) Machine Shop Equipment including ability to learn G code programming for part editing, Cam Programming utilizing Master Cam Software as well as conversational programming packages at the machine control
· Ability to learn and apply requirements for ISO (International Organization for Standardization) (9000, Z .299.3 and Z.299.4) standards, ASME (American Society of American Engineers) Section III and VIII codes, must be able to meet requirements and conditions for special working operations such as ASME Section III Nuclear code work.
· Written and verbal communication skills to be able to work in multi-trade groups and communicate with CNL staff across a broad range of disciplines.
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office in order to update and write procedures, create spreadsheets, input data and communicate via email.
Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security”.
