As a Type Rating Examiner – Pilot (TRE), you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This role plays a vital part in supporting the UK’s emergency services by ensuring the highest standards of training for Air Ambulance and Police helicopter pilots. By delivering expert instruction on H145 and EC135 helicopters, you’ll directly contribute to saving lives and protecting communities, enhancing the nation’s ability to respond to critical situations with efficiency and reliability.Day-to-day, you’ll deliver high-quality helicopter training, ensuring students meet the required standards for Type and Instrument Ratings. You’ll work closely with both internal teams and external clients, adapting to a flexible schedule to support operational needs.This role is a 50% full time role, one week on / one week off. 38 hours per week and is based at Gloucestershire Airport.You’ll be required to:
- Effectively conduct day and night HEMS operations for HIOWAA
- Meet company and customer Health & Safety responsibilities while adhering to all relevant aviation regulations.
- Work a 12-hour shift roster, with four days on followed by four days off, which allows for ample rest and recovery.
- Maintain the highest standards of professional expertise and safety throughout the conduct of this challenging role.
This role is full time and based on site at the Midland Air Ambulance Charity base in Shifnal, Shropshire. The successful candidate will be required to reside within 25 nautical miles or 45 minutes of the Midland Air Ambulance Charity base in Shifnal, Shropshire.Essential experience of the Type Rating Examiner – Pilot (TRE):
- 1000 hours pilot in command of aircraft of which 500 hours is pilot in command on twin turbine helicopters; OR
- 1000 hours as co-pilot in HEMS/Police operations of which 500 hours is as pilot in command under supervision and 100 hours pilot in command of twin turbine helicopters
You must also have the following as mandatory in addition to either of the above two points:
- 2000 hours minimum total helicopter experience
- 500 hours operating experience in twin turbine helicopters in an operational environment similar to the intended operation
- 20 hours VFR at night as pilot in command
- Experience with night flying – desirable
Qualifications for the Type Rating Examiner – Pilot (TRE):
- Hold a UK ATPL(H) or CPL(H) with Instrument Rating (IR)
- Qualified and instrument-rated on both the EC135 and EC145 helicopters
- Possess a full UK Aviation Class 1 Medical certificate
- Fluent in English
- Valid UK Driving Licence
- Valid Passport and legal right to work in the UK
