Job Purpose
Under the supervision of the NTM and Standards & Training Manager (STM), oversee and contribute to managing all aspects of Improvised Mine Field Clearance, Building Search/Clearance (Improvised Devices), Conventional Battle Area Clearance, Conventional Mine Field Clearance training, and related tasks in accordance with MAG Iraq Standard Operating Procedures, MAG HMA Global Technical Standards and National Mine Action Standards (NMAS).
In collaboration with the National Standards & Training Advisor (NSTA) and STM, develop training objectives in Arabic and Kurdish, aligning them with MAG’s mission and mandate to maximize operational effectiveness. Represent MAG within the Training School acting as a key point of contact.
Job Description
Training
- Liaise with internal department heads to ensure all training plans are received prior to starting, and training reports on completion of training are received, achieved and results updated to the programme training database.
- Liaise with A&LM to ensure all documents required for course task orders are prepared accurately for submission to NMAAs.
- Translate all Lesson Plans, Power Point presentations and Formative/Summative Assessments for approval by the QM, TM and STM.
- Process and achieve all student assessments and ensure course certificates are accurate and available for end of courses as directed by the TM.
- Process and achieve all annual assessments on operational staff as directed by the QM, TM and STM
- Contribute to the development of Training Needs Assessments (TNA) as directed by the QM, TM and STM.
- Translate amendments during the review, development and revision of SOPs and TMPs as appropriate.
- Contribute to the development of new training and support trials of new equipment through translation, achieve and distribution of trial and field reports
- Responsible for management, maintenance and upgrading of all training equipment ensuring they meet the requirements of the training provided.
- Interpret for International staff in the field and during meetings ensuring clear and effective communication.
- Ensure all qualifications and course reports are produced prior to the students’ departure and provided to HR in a timely manner.
- Provide training on tablet applications including QAEF reporting, Ops mapping, OMIS daily reporting.
Technical
- Ensure full knowledge of all MAG SOPs.
- Ensure an in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of all mines and munitions in the theatre of operations.
- Contribute to the Training School’s Reference Library.
- Ensure an in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of all relevant technical equipment in the theatre of operations.
- Responsible for managing and maintaining explosives accounts, ensuring accurate documentation, accountability, and compliance with safety and operational protocols.
- Other duties as directed, in accordance with programme requirements.
Quality Management
- Support the QM as required and plan/conduct Quality Assurance Evaluation on operational task sites.
Management and HR
- Assist in managing, motivating and developing the training team within the project to perform to a high standard.
- Translate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) into Arabic and Kurdish to ensure clarity and accessibility for all operational staff.
- Under the supervision of the TM and STM, ensure that student and training files and produced and shared with HR.
- Ensure that HR policies and procedures are implemented in consultation with Base Manager and HR Manager.
- Support in the selection procedures for all project students in line with MAG’s policies and procedures.
Communications and Reporting
- Ensure the TM and STM are fully briefed on all training issues regarding reporting of training.
- Support the submission of accurate training reports as directed by the NTM, and produce other technical reports and documents as and when required.
- Assist the TM / STM in the development and production of training proposals, reports and budgets.
- As required by the TM / STM support investigations into incidents/accidents with translations and statements.
Health, Safety and Security
- Assist in the monitoring of the security situation in work location and areas of operations ensuring that the TM / STM are kept informed of security risks and developments.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
Person Specification
Essential
- An excellent command of spoken and written English.
- An excellent command of spoken and written Kurdish.
- An excellent command of spoken and written Arabic (not essential)
- The ability to translate documents from English into Kurdish (Arabic) and vice versa.
- The ability to interpret during lessons from English to Kurdish and Arabic and vice versa.
- Ability to use basic Microsoft programmes to write reports
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
- Administrative skills and ability to take minutes of meetings.
- High level of self-motivation.
- An understanding of NGOs.
- A commitment to humanitarian work.
- Ability to travel/ stay in the field when necessary
- Ability to liaise effectively with external stakeholders regarding support with training
Essential Experience
- Understanding of working in mine clearance/EOD/IED operations in Iraq that are contaminated by remnants of conflict
- Experience of assisting in the management of training reports,
- Experience in assisting in training students
- Experience of training, motivating and managing a diverse group of people
- Experience of training, mentoring and coaching others, with the use of a translator, when necessary.
- Experience of assisting in the management & conduct of formal or informal training and the transfer of appropriate skills to others.
Essential Skills and Knowledge
- Technical knowledge of mines and unexploded ordnance and mine clearance techniques, including new developments
- Technical Knowledge of improvised devises and search techniques.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to assist in the planning and coordination of training activities projects
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills
