An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated ST3 equivalent doctor to work in the diabetes and metabolism team at the Royal London Hospital. The role will include specialty ward round in diabetes and endocrinology, participation in diabetes and obesity clinics and a place on the general medical rota.

Main duties of the job

The appointment is to provide cover on the very popular North Thames East Diabetes / Endocrinology Specialist Trainee Training Programme for a specialist registrar who has secured a research post. This post will be one of four ST trainees on the Metabolic firm, and will rotate through five job plans, which include covering ward 13D, referrals registrar and specialist clinics (access to pump, type 1, renal, lipid, obesity, foot, antenatal, transition clinics, as well as complex diabetes clinics). The post is aimed at doctors with full registration who require further experience in General Medicine and Diabetes at Specialist Trainee level prior to applying for a substantive Specialist Trainee post. The post will predominantly undertake responsibilities in General (Internal) Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology.

The post-holder’s educational needs can be discussed and addressed in order to enhance the chances of the appointee getting a ST appointment later. There are regular meetings in Diabetes / Metabolism (Tuesday pm), Endocrinology (Friday pm) and General Medicine (Hot cases).

There is a rotating on call commitment to the acute medical take, supervised by an Acute Medicine Consultant.
