Context
The UNESCO Office in Maputo, established in 1994, contributes to build peace through international cooperation in education, sciences and culture. UNESCO’s programmes contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals defined in the 2030 Agenda, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015.’ UNESCO works to attain quality education for all, focusing on gender equality and adult literacy, to mobilize scientific knowledge and science policy for sustainable development, to preserve cultural heritage, promote cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, and to empower people through the free flow of ideas and access to information and knowledge. To achieve these objectives, UNESCO works closely with national and local authorities and civil society, participating actively in the work of the UN Country Team in Mozambique collaborating closely with other development partners in the country. For this assignment, the UNV will work closely with the incoming National Officer for Education for Health and Well Being programming in the office. This will focus specifically on the implementation of 1) the Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future (O3) regional programme (including Mozambique) that builds on current efforts by UNESCO to improve sexual and reproductive health, as well as gender and education outcomes for adolescents and young people. And 2) the upcoming new phase of Rapariga Biz, a Joint-UN programme (UNESCO, UNFPA, UNICEF, UN WOMEN) multi-sectoral initiative aimed at empowering adolescent girls and young women in Mozambique by improving their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), reducing gender-based violence (GBV), and fostering educational opportunities that works in collaboration with government partners (MINEDH, MISAU, SEJE plus province and district-level representations), civil society organizations, and international donors (Sweden and Canada).
Task Description
Working under the authority of the Head of Office and the direct supervision of the National Officer for Education for Health and Well-Being (EHW) in UNESCO Mozambique, the UNV will support the effective planning, implementation, and monitoring of UNESCO’s work on Education for Health and well-being through both the Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future (O3) and Rapariga Biz programmes in Mozambique. S/he will be responsible for providing technical expertise on key themes including Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE), sexual and reproductive health, inclusion, gender, and school-related gender-based violence, school health, and HIV. The UNV will specifically be responsible to support the implementation and the coordination of the following activities: Provide support to training programmes and the development/dissemination of related material, including: • Capacity Building Training of Government Officials, curriculum developers, trainers, teachers on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE); • in-service training for teachers working with students with disabilities on GBV and inclusion; • Refresher Training of Trainers on CSE; • Training teachers on Connect with Respect Tool with teachers, gender focal points and health focal points; • Support training of Education Technicians on CSE indicator setting within the EMIS for the target schools] • Training of pre-service teachers on CSE in Zambezia & Nampula (aligned with Curriculum contents); • Traning of MINEDH Staff on Scripted lessons Planning at National Level; • Training of in-service teachers in Testing models of teacher training approaches; (Mocuba & Nacala districts); • Development of training, teaching and learning material for Nampula and Zambezia; • Teacher Guidance Materials for GBV Prevention; • Dissemination of CSE online course(s) at selected universities Planning, budgeting, M&E, and reporting • Contribute to timely Project implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting for the O3 Project • Ensure timely narrative and financial reporting on elements from the national O3 Project • Support monitoring of the O3 Project’ expenditure in line with the approved budget, in liaison with relevant Education and ROSA Harare colleagues. • Plan and commission the qualitative study on the attitudes, perceptions and experiences of learners and teachers on comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) in Nampula and Zambezia Representation and partner relations • Represent UNESCO in appropriate coordination forums, such as the UN Joint Teams on HIV and AIDS, interagency meetings, and thematic meetings. • Engage with both national authorities and civil society in support. • Support UNESCO’s participation in regional structures and processes when required

Living conditions and remarks
As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in the UNESCO Country Office for Mozambique, located at 240 R. da Frente de Libertacao de Mozambique in Sommerschield I. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. Conditions of Service for national UN Volunteers The contract lasts for the period indicated above with possibility of extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment. The applicable Volunteer Living Allowance is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents – except for UN Community Volunteers), as well as final repatriation (if applicable).
