Full Title: Undergraduate Sandwich Intern: Enhancing Kew’s ethnobotany collections through digital integration of documentation and specimensKew’s Economic Botany Collection holds around 100,000 specimens of plant raw material and objects of great scientific and cultural importance. This project will enhance its use for source communities and other researchers by reuniting, reidentifying and reattaching objects/specimens to lost and unrecorded information.Using various sources such as conservation reports, journal articles, Museum Lists, index cards and other object/specimen documentation, the student will be digitising and integrating physical record data onto our Integrated Collections Management Database to enrich objects digital records. (PDF, 44.91kb)More detailsThe postholder would be expected to focus on several object/collections case studies, resulting in various outreach activities such as writing blogs and hosting community-based events. They will also be responsible for documentation management and writing of procedures for collection and provenance-based research. Equally, this will be a curatorial role, responsible for assisting the Collection Manager in cataloguing, accessioning, loans, research requests, hosting visitors and more.This post would be particularly suitable for applicants with experience of working with collections, or who are interested in exploring a career in Science, Biocultural and/or Natural History Collections.This role is based at Kew with the option of regular home working, subject to operational requirements.The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew) is a leading plant science institute, UNESCO World Heritage Site, and major visitor attraction.
