The Senior Manager, Community Relations is an organized, detail driven individual with an interest in local community engagement, eager to join a highly respected team of experienced professionals serving one of the largest companies in the world.

Walmart’s Community Relations team is responsible for driving local engagement with stores, customers and community leaders with the goal of elevating our brand reputation and increasing meaningful connections that will continue to provide added value to the business.

The Senior Manager will see up close how the CR team conducts in-store activations that empower stores and clubs to increase and enhance community relationships through training; toolkits; newsletters; and event support. Additionally, the Senior Manager will have the opportunity to engage internal business units to drive community driven alignment; conduct regular training of Community Champions in urban, suburban and rural markets that empowers store associates to engage locally through a structured decision-making framework with resources and inspiration; cultivate relationships with local government officials and community leaders; identify local store opportunities for volunteerism and random acts of kindness; support social media training and outreach; and foster self-sufficiency on our overall approach to community engagement.

You’ll make an immediate impact by:

  • Supporting Community Relations projects directly tied to team priorities and initiatives; tracking timelines and deliverables; and preparing, reviewing, and/or editing project materials
  • Outreaching and training of associates to strengthen community engagement skills.
  • Conducting research on community events and developing ideas for stores to execute to drive community trust and loyalty
  • Organizing team outreach; developing community-focused communications; build and manage a network of key community relationships; performing similar tasks in coordination with peers on other teams for larger, cross-functional projects; and securing alignment between principal participants
  • Identifying, anticipating and developing training and educational tools that will be made available to all Walmart markets (i.e., monthly playbooks, training materials, monthly briefs, report templates)
  • Maintain annual and monthly budgets, as needed
  • Modeling compliance with company policies and procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity; incorporating these concepts into the development and implementation of your everyday engagement with your team members and internal partners; using the Open Door Policy; and demonstrating and assisting others with how to apply these in executing business processes and practices.

Minimum Qualifications…

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Political Science, Business, or related field and 3-5 years experience managing local community outreach and engagement.

Preferred Qualifications…

  • 5 years Community Relations, Public Relations, Public Affairs or related experience in a Fortune 500 company, NGO, or local stakeholder group.
  • Managerial experience running local campaign(s).
  • 4 years corporate experience involving direct training or coalition building.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Travels domestically 3-4 weeks per month to and from multiple facilities or work sites requiring consecutive overnight stays.
