Ensures the integrity of financial reporting through implementation of adequate controls, performance measurement and monitoring including annual profit planning and capital expenditure forecasts, monthly and quarterly reporting, forecasting and project tracking.Accountabilities

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Act as a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to Tangerine to provide analysis, support and effective challenge to business line management related to financial management of the respective division’s profitability. Leverage strong understanding of the customer, product offering and business model to provide value-add advice and recommendations. Conduct financial reviews / investigations of strategic business initiatives including new growth initiatives / acquisitions / products / markets with a view around sustainable profitable growth within the Bank’s strategic / risk appetite and accounting policy framework.
  • Interacts with the Tangerine Board and presents the financial results and statements for review and approval. Maintains an effective accounting control environment within the Bank’s Accounting Policy framework and provides the necessary assurance over the accuracy of the accounting records, financial reporting and regulatory / fiduciary requirements to the Board and Bank.
  • Evaluates the financial results, budgets and forecasts by providing reliable and timely financial projections and advises Tangerine’s executive management of the financial context to support business growth, improvement initiatives and investments. Work the Tangerine management to develop, analyze and support strategic growth initiatives and help ensure that these are properly assessed/challenged for effectiveness and sustainably implemented.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the changing economic environment and evaluate the impact of accounting / business considerations on the profitability of the business line.
  • Sustain strategic relationships and develop alliances with key contacts, business partners (EO groups and CFOs) and stakeholders (Business line heads, Executive Management) to deliver on mandate and provide value-added analysis and act as an advocate of Tangerine business line. Build and reinforce effective working relationships and collaboration within and across the Finance Community and the Bank.
  • Directs financial reviews or initiatives to support strategic priorities and/or improve management processes and standardize methodologies.
  • Develop tax strategies and planning for the corporate tax, contingencies, and audits (corporate governance).
  • Carry out the financial analysis of results, plans (volumes, margins, non-financial income, and expenditure), financial forecasts, overall profitability, and support for new business case initiatives, providing Bank executives and the Bank’s senior management with a clear understanding of the historical financial performance, highlighting opportunities for improving profitability and returns, and recommending action plans.
  • Manage the financial and accounting control, analysis, and planning of over capital allocation and spending associated with Tangerine’s operational activities. Ensuring there is the appropriate analysis, governance, accountability, and executive decision-making on operational budgets. Develop and implement policies and processes for expense management, provide oversight of line budgets and ensure business cases are appropriately assessed for funding and effectively implemented.
  • Govern the processes for preparing the Annual Profit Plan, quarterly forecast updates, and Bank performance analysis and recommendations.
  • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
  • Creates an environment in which their team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.

Education & Experience

  • MBA and/or Accounting Designation.
  • Extensive financial analysis and reporting experience.
  • Strong general management and leadership experience.
  • Extensive experience interacting with Senior executives and managing relationships with key contacts inside and outside the bank.
  • Thorough knowledge of related Bank policies, practices, and products in the context of best practice and regulatory requirements and expectations.
  • Advance presentation skills and ability to provide insightful and influential viewpoints to Executive and Senior Management.
  • Strong ability to balance competing or conflicting goals of various departments/stakeholders. Requiring a mature, diplomatic approach and highly developed negotiating and influencing skills.
  • Expert communication/facilitation and presentation skills for developing communication strategies for Executive approval.
  • Strong leadership and team building skills. Experience in directing managing, coaching and mentoring skilled staff to motivate and bring about efficiency and creativity.
  • Clearly demonstrates collaborative consensus building skills.
