  • Provide analysis, support and counsel to Executive management related to financial management of the enterprise, including insightful analysis on broad-based financial metrics relating to all-Bank business lines and other segment forecasts.
  • Leverage strong understanding of product portfolio and business models to provide value-added advice and recommendations.
  • Continuously improve planning and forecasting processes to improve transparency and provide a forum for partners to obtain alignment on key financial issues.
  • Support ad hoc requests from Executive Management, auditors, regulators, rating agencies, research analysts and other external parties as required.

Financial Reporting and Control

  • Responsible for internal financial reporting for the enterprise including compiling and updating financial plans, forecasts, budgets, stress tests, business and project pipelines, and other forward-looking financial outlooks or projections.
  • Responsible for the Executive Office segment financial planning, analysis, and reporting including the Bank’s corporate position, centrally held expenses, and taxes.
  • Identify issues and provide commentary related to monthly and quarterly financial results and/or forecasts or projections to Executive Management.

Performance Measurement

  • Responsible for defining, developing, and maintaining financial measurement processes and a comprehensive business model to provide a fair and consistent assessment of financial performance at the enterprise level.

Financial Analysis

  • Provide financial analysis and support by providing recommendations on key business drivers including product profitability, balance sheet optimization, and expense management.
  • Leverage financial technology and analytics to deliver value-add insights for partners and Executive Management.

Accounting Control and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Scotiabank policies and guidelines and regulatory requirements by maintaining awareness of policies and statutory requirements, following accounting changes in all jurisdictions, providing advice and counsel on accounting issues and monitoring compliance with critical requirements.

Financial Management Information

  • Provide leadership on Financial Management Information requirements for all business lines and develops operational and technical solutions that provide value-added and insightful information with enterprise-wide view. Financial dimensions include quarterly reporting of financial results as well as forecasts and annual profit plans.

Build and continue to develop strong and risk-aware teams

  • Establish a two-way working relationship with key stakeholders to solicit their views on the working environment, potential changes affecting their work, and continuous improvement opportunities in order to build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct

Education & Experience

  • Accounting Designation and/or MBA.
  • Extensive financial analysis and reporting experience.
  • Strong general management and leadership experience.
  • Extensive experience interacting with senior executives and managing relationships with key contacts inside and outside the Bank.
