This position is located primarily in the UN Video Section, in the News and Media Division (NMD) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The UN Video Section produces video content highlighting a wide range of priority themes and issues on the United Nations agenda, including climate change, the Sustainable Development Goals, human rights and gender equality. The Incumbent reports to the Chief of Section.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority and depending on location, the Video Editing Assistant, under the direct supervision of the Chief of Section, the incumbent is responsible for the following duties: • Upload videos as needed on various platforms, including performing archival tasks of the Section’s productions into the media asset management system (MAMS) and other database systems by ensuring that contents, both new and legacy, being ingested into the systems are promptly, accurately and completely catalogued and indexed, with all the required metadata entered; performing metadata quality control; • Provide technical support, recording and editing of TV and multimedia production and postproduction; • Create links for download by partner broadcasters, as needed and assist in the generation of statistical and other reports from various databases for the monitoring and reporting of the work output, as well as collaborating with the staff and supervising the work interns in support of the metadata managements functions; • Report equipment problems, make emergency repairs or troubleshooting and ensure that repairs are made to the equipment when necessary and possible; • Create, review, maintain and edit as appropriate technical documentation, ensuring that all works are correctly documented; • Coordinate with TV producers, “on-air talent” and correspondents to edit and assemble news programs and studio shoots; • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Experience

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in public communication, audiovisual library and archives, or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in video production including digital video editing is required. Experience in working with digital audiovisual and multimedia archiving formats and standards, metadata management and quality assurance is required. Experience in database management systems and digital asset management systems is required. Specialized training in media archiving and preservation as well as a comprehensive knowledge of media formats and characteristics is required. Experience in working with social media and digital communication platforms is desirable. Experience with cataloguing standards at the United Nations or equivalent international organization is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
