This opportunity is designed for an intern to work side by side with experienced information professionals. Interns will be trained to work with producers or assistant producers in creating videos for various products including feature video programs, social media and news videos, IGTV etc. Basic functions include assisting in script writing, captioning videos in language and editing using the Abode Creative Cloud (especially Premiere Pro). Interns may also be requested to perform other ad hoc duties including design and animation and being trained to assist in studio recordings and assisting in the presentation of monthly metrics of video products. Interns may also be asked to perform research on content distribution channels by studying best industry practices and various video festivals fit for our content.

Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, Department of Global Communications, the following conditions must be met:
1. Applicants must:
(a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, English or translation studies (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, English or translation studies (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
2. Be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar; Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Languages

English or French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the internship advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.

Additional Information

The position is located in the Video Section of the News and Content Branch, News and
Media Division, Department of Global Communications. The internship is in person, under the supervision of the Chief of the Section.

Intern Specific text

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
