Department Description:The Department of Art, Architecture + Art History is a community of artists, architects, and art historians. Located within the College of Arts and Sciences, it offers Bachelor of Arts in three majors: Visual Arts, Architecture, and Art History. DAA+AH contributes numerous courses to USD’s core curriculum, in the areas of Artistic Inquiry but also Advanced Writing, Diversity, Integration and, most recently, Quantitative Reasoning.

Detailed Description:The Department of Art, Architecture + Art History (DAA+AH) in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of San Diego (USD) invites applications for a one-year part-time (20 units) benefits-based faculty appointment in Photography and Studio Art to commence fall 2024. This position offers the opportunity for substantial engagement with a thriving multi-disciplinary department in a liberal arts context.The ideal candidate is committed to collaborative practice, is an elastic thinker and maker, and values actively contributing to a vibrant community of undergraduate students and faculty in a department which houses art history, architecture, graphic design, painting, drawing, photography, film, video, animation, sculpture, and printmaking. At the same time, the candidate will be able to explore and expand photography with an emphasis on critical thinking, inclusivity, and varied contexts. In particular, we invite candidates who are energized by the shifting dynamics of lens-based mediums and graphics and who investigate technology’s relationship to power and pedagogy.USD recognizes principles of social equity, diversity, and inclusion as fundamental to its academic mission. Job Requirements:
- We seek candidates with an MFA or MA or equivalent in fine art.
- At least 2 years of full-time teaching experience, or the equivalent is preferred.
- Knowledge, experience, and a sustained, critical engagement with digital and analog tools and processes relevant to contemporary lens-based and graphic practices.
- Evidence of sustained practice that contributes to the discourses of contemporary art.
