Role DescriptionThis position is primarily responsible for performing detailed analytics work in an independent fashion in support of the Canada AML Compliance team’s goals, objectives and accountabilities. The role will perform the collection, aggregation, analysis and visualization of customer, product, and transaction data to identify trends, and potential data quality and data lineage risks. The role will perform analysis and recommend remedial action in support of the design, implementation, performance and enhancement of AML, Sanctions and other compliance models, tools and systems, including (Actimize) AML transaction monitoring, (FircoSoft) sanctions screening, customer risk ratings and other compliance data governance activities. The role will develop and enhance MIS reports for use by SMBC Canada Branch, Americas Division and Head Office stakeholders.Role Objectives: Delivery
- Model and data governance lead for Canada Compliance.
- Collect, aggregate, analyse, and visualize customer, product, and transaction data to identify trends (i.e., data quality, data lineage, tuning needs, rules/exceptions) and evaluate material changes of customer, product, and transactional risk exposure for potential escalation and recommendation.
- Liaise with and support stakeholder teams to develop, oversee and perform periodic data, model, and rule tuning exercises for Canada’s compliance models, notably but not limited to AML transaction monitoring, sanctions screening and customer risk ratings, to ensure that local accountabilities for data governance and model governance are effectively fulfilled.
- Develop and/or enhance MIS reports for submission to senior Branch and CPAD management, notably in relation to the ongoing effectiveness and performance of Canada’s compliance models as noted above.
- Apply data from Canada Compliance Department stakeholders to translate qualitative risk factors into responsive risk models that leverage new technology.
- Oversee investigations and root cause analyses for issues and exceptions related to Actimize SAM, FircoSoft and KYC applications as well as other compliance applications.
- Administer rules configuration, business parameters, and day-to-day operations of Actimize SAM, FircoSoft and KYC applications as well as other compliance applications.
- Work with AD Technology and CPAD Analytics partners to develop and test tools, systems, and system changes and upgrades in line with policy and regulatory expectations.
- Apply economic, quantitative, and statistical skills in the development of tools, systems, and automated processes.
- Develop knowledge of new analytical techniques and data sources that provide ongoing risk mitigation, and how emerging data and technology issues may impact the achievement of Canada Compliance Department’s objectives.
Other Administrative Responsibilities:Responsible for engagement with and/or oversight of any vendors/contractors of the Canada Branch within the scope of data analytics and model validation activities.
Secondary coverage for ‘business-as-usual’ compliance activities, or other projects within the Compliance team, as assigned from time to time.Responsibility for Supervision:None.Qualifications and SkillsEducation:Bachelor’s Degree in relevant discipline (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics, or another related field).Experience:1. Minimum 2 years of experience in a data analytics or technology/systems related role.2. Preferably 2 years of AML, Sanctions, or other compliance experience, particularly with data, platforms, models, and/or data management, with a federally or provincially regulated financial institution or regulator.Skills:Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to distill complex information for stakeholders to identify the key issue/action and drive resolution.Excellent organizational skills and an ability to independently manage multiple projects at once, making sure to meet quality, resource and time constraints.Good communicator with a high level of written and oral communication skills.Enthusiasm and drive for delivering results. Tenacity and resilience to achieve objectives.Knowledge of Canadian AML legislation, regulations and FINTRAC guidelines and/or other Canadian banking regulations would be an asset.Experience with some or all of the following technologies to build analysis and drive insights from data and model governance:Database: Oracle (PL/SQL), Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL)
