We are seeking a highly motivated Waste System Officer to join our Waste Process & Data Services team at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL). This role is part of the Waste Data Services Section that is responsible for managing waste information and customer interface for Waste Management. They use various data systems and waste tracking systems, to ensure compliance with waste information requirements and provide efficient waste management services. The Waste Support Services Section serves as the main point of contact for waste generators seeking services from Waste Management, aiming to improve customer relationships and workflow integration.
The Waste Systems Officer is accountable for collecting, managing, and analyzing data important to Environmental Remediation Management (ERM) activities. They investigate, gather, analyze, and organize information for input into systems, which is then reported to ERM staff and other customers as needed.

What will you be doing!

  • Investigating, locating, analyzing, and interpreting information and data for input into systems.
  • Analyzing and reporting data in response to requests from ERM staff and other customers
  • Providing advice and guidance related to the safe management and disposal of waste at CNL
  • Solve technical waste challenges across CNL missions
  • Maintain relationships with customers, waste receivers, and functional support groups including Radiation Protection, Environmental, and Waste Management

What we are looking for:
Education:

  • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology in a field relevant to the position, or equivalent formal education.

Or

  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent and normally has more than 3 years pertinent experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.

Experience:

  • Familiarity with MS Office, Adobe or equivalent PDF editor

Strong abilities with:

  • Good verbal and technical writing skills
  • Strong attention to details with data entry skills
  • Gathering data from various sources to create organized and useful information
  • Strong customer focus mindset and ability to create reports and updates that cater to a broad range of users
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work as part of a team, as well as ability to work independently to accomplish tasks with excellent communication skills, both written and oral

Job/Industry Specific Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of waste management processes
  • Knowledge of waste segregation, processing and packaging

Working Conditions:

  • 40 hr work week
  • Required to work at a desk with personal computers/workstations remotely and on-site

Security clearance eligibility required: Level 2 Secret which has a minimum requirement of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security”.

Location:
