Responsibilities
Lead projects as well as provide support to and mentorship to Group initiatives related to Environmental Sustainability within the Nature Chapter with a clear focus on BAT Direct Operations and Water with key areas of responsibility summarized but not limited to the below:
- Lead the Water Centre of Excellence meetings becoming a subject matter authority (SME) on the topic in a corporate context. That encompasses but is not limited to education and engagement of Central, Regional, Business Units and End Markets’ teams as needed.
- Facilitate/support Water Target setting process and related glide paths at location and corporate level, supervising progress against targets and supporting deployment teams in the Regions/Business Units in closing gaps
- Lead BAT’s Water CDP/Annual Report/other Disclosures with the ability to handle inputs from multifunctional teams and produce write-ups in English for external audiences (e.g. rating agencies, investors, etc.)
- Responsible for Water Regulatory Landscape monitoring and advising on strategic direction and plans that will deliver compliance. E.g. interpretation of requirements of current and upcoming regulations related to Water as part of CSRD compliance requirements.
- Handle the Alliance for Water Stewardship Program including the elaboration and tracking of Audits scheduling, collaborate with auditors/suppliers, tracking of program spend, follow-up with sites to secure OTIF findings closures to enable certification.
- Eager to learn and educate BAT partners in Global Biodiversity Protocols such as those issued by the United Nations, Science-Based Targets for Nature, TNFD – Task Force for Nature-related Financial Disclosures with “Water” as a specific focus area of responsibility.
- Support the Biodiversity Operations Manager in the elaboration of Biodiversity management plans for BAT Operations and track associated mitigation Short/Medium/Long term actions by engaging with external experts, collaborating with internal functional teams (Leaf, Supply-Network Operations, R&D, others) and end markets.
- Support data Preparation and disclosures related to Biodiversity risks and dependencies. Including but not limited to submissions such as DJSI, CDP, CSRD, TNFD and SBTN.
Collaborate with the Supply Network Operations Team and Ops Sustainability Team in the quantification of benefits of CAPEX-dependent Water Projects, supporting capability build required to the implementation of CBAs, etc.
Represents BAT by responding to external/internal audit or compliance review queries related to Nature/ Biodiversity with Water a specific area of focus/expertise.
Essential Requirements
Person Specification
- Excellent engagement and presentation skills
- Ability to understand sophisticated frameworks and topics quickly and able to simplify for others.
- Strong analytical skills and self-learning discipline and interest
- Multiple roles conducted across operations for BAT or similar large FMCG company or consulting Group.
- Project management experience or experience running cross functional forums.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Academic Background: Degree or equivalent experience working in an FMCG
- Good knowledge of Excel and data analytics
- Experience training others
- Experience in rolling out standards or processes
- Experience in working with / handling external consultants
- Proficient English and excellent reading and writing skills
Desirable
- Strongly Desirable – Understanding of BAT’s entire value chain with good command of manufacturing processes and understanding of the business value-chain E2E
- Experience with sustainability reporting and claims substantiation.
- Experience in TNFD / SBTN
- Experience within Leaf or a manufacturing location
- Experience writing standards.
- Multiple languages spoken
