Position Focus:
The Visual Design Specialist will help to source/curate the content for daily distribution over websites. Occasionally the candidate will participate in communications through print publications and newsletters.

Essential Duties
•Build, with a mix of photo database research and original commissions, the visual components of long-form feature stories. •Select and/or commission imagery of short-form informational content. •Craft graphics for social channels, as well as branded newsletters, brochures, presentations, and brand collateral. •Create photo galleries and infographics, write text for photo captions and graphic captions. •Collaborate with the leadership team to identify photos and graphics for license; participate in negotiations with vendors, curate photo database. •Ensure the integrity of all photo databases, records, metadata, and files. •Take part in editorial planning. A constant stream of fresh ideas and perspectives are vital to success. •Embrace analytics as a vital tool to understand and benchmark content consumption and user behavior, and work with senior staff to evolve his/her work per that feedback. •Provide graphic design support as needed.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years’ experience in a newsroom or agency environment (or equivalent). Must be able to manage workflows on both long and short term projects, and prioritize client needs. Experience in creation of infographics, editing photos, commissioning/managing photo shoots, and graphic design preferred.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Proficiency in Proficiency in Word Press.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Proficiency in creating create dynamic interactive websites using PHP.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Proficiency working in Linux environment (shell script or bash) and Javascript.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Knowledge of Apache, SQL, CSS, HTML, Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
