Details:Mission and objectives:Five years ago, Member States adopted bold reforms to the United Nations development system. At the heart of those reforms was a commitment to transform the United Nations development coordination function to unleash the system’s full capacity to support countries on their path to achieving the transformational 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The UN Resident Coordination Offices were retooled, under the oversight of the UN Development Coordination Office, as a means to streamline coordination, manage UN Country Teams and deliver on the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. These frameworks are the primary data source for the UNSDG’s contribution to the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.Context:In its Resolution A/RES/72/279, the United Nations General Assembly endorsed the transformation of the Development Coordination Office (DCO) as a stand-alone coordination office within the United Nations Secretariat. DCO assumes managerial and oversight functions of the resident coordinator system under the collective ownership of the members of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG).This position is in the Communications and Results Reporting Section (CRRS) of DCO. Under the leadership of the Digital Strategist, the incumbent reports directly to the Public Information Officer/ Communications Officer and Assistant working on the website www.unsdg.un.org and in collaboration with other members of the digital team as necessary.Task type:Communication and social mediaTask description:Wea are looking for two online volunteers.One online volunteer will:

  • Support implementing and populating the Arabic language version(s) of the UNSDG global website by uploading content and translating pages on the UNSDG global website from English to Arabic (and vice versa as needed).
  • Curate global and/or country level content to effectively tell the stories of the work of UNSDG members, including joint initiatives, campaigns and programmes in Arabic.

The second online volunteer will:

  • Monitor, collect and alert broader DCO Editorial Team on stories featured on UNCT websites under their portfolio that that showcase collaboration between agencies, funds and programmes for amplification on the UNSDG digital channels.
  • Support managers in undertaking quality assurance for pages in Arabic and any other translation support as necessary.

Requirements:1) A university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in communications, journalism, international relations or policy or related fields is required. A first-level university degree in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.2) A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in communications, journalism, international relations or related area is desirable.3) Experience translating relevant multimedia content to/from Arabic to/from English in a professional context is required.4) A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience with digital project management is desirable.5) Experience using Content Management Systems (CMS) comparable to Drupal 10 in an international, multilingual setting is desirable. Experience using graphic design and/or photo editing software is desirable.Work Hours: 11 – 15
