Our Chalk River location is looking for a Well Drilling Technician to join the team. Are you looking for a role that will challenge you? Do you enjoy drilling complex wells and directly overseeing the drilling operations of assisting staff such as drill rig operators, utility works and field service assistants?   • Performing complex drilling operations.
  • Overseeing and supervising, either directly or indirectly, the drilling of bore holes and construction of wells by assisting staff.
  • Completing job walkdowns.
  • Ensuring regulatory requirements are being followed.
  • Maintaining and repairing of existing wells on site maintaining established well parameters.
  • Collecting routine and complex water levels from the network of wells across the site.
  • Developing and cleaning of wells in preparation of sample collection.
  • Contacting suppliers for quotes and procuring necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Assisting with data logging.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
  • College diploma, with preference for completion of director-approved courses under R.R.O. 1990, REGULATION 903 (WELLS)

OR * Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five (5) years of pertinent and progressive experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.

  • Experience
  • Experience in geo-environmental borehole drilling, soil/rock sampling and groundwater monitoring well installation with a preference for at least 4000 hours of documented well and borehole drilling experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to set up and safely operate drill rigs to obtain soil and bedrock samples and install groundwater monitoring wells.
  • Drill rig maintenance and troubleshoot mechanical issues.
  • Experience working within contaminated environments under strict controls.
  • Ability to pass the Ontario Well Technician exam and obtain an Ontario Well Technician License.
  • Operational knowledge of rotary and direct push drill rigs, specifically CME75 and Geoprobe push rigs.
  • Experience working within the regulatory requirements in Reg. 903.
  • Collection and preservation of soil and rock samples.
  • Recording borehole and well information (logs).
  • Knowledge of borehole sealants.
  • Knowledge of proper well abandonment techniques.
  • Collection of water level data and collection of groundwater samples.
  • Hold a minimum current valid class G driver’s license, with DZ as an asset.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

  • This work involves heavy manual labour in noisy operating environments during the drilling of boreholes and the construction of wells using heavy machinery.
